The last weight class was impossible for any one on a small scale production and that being the collosal mechs. They were massive city destroying machines built to take on the largest kaijus.
While the purpose of mech designers was to create mechs and the purpose of mechs being to defeat the kaiju, the players of mech galaxy wars acted quite different. The game prioritised battles between mech pilots, while this put of certain mech designers from using the games in-built designer function. The mech pilots found it a good way to sharpen their skills.
Alto had also heard of mech arena duels occuring in the real world. He still felt strange building a mech to be used as a source of amusement but he had to remind himself that his role was to build mechs and not pilot them.
Aside from the previous factor of building a virtual mech Alto had another problem to sort out next. He had already chosen to build a light mech since it would be much easier than the other weight classes. Now came the problem of purpose.
While mechs were classified by sizes they also had functions. He had to decide if he wanted to build an assault type mech, a sniper type mech, a support type mech and aerial type mech or a hybrid type mech.
The most probable choice to him was the assault type mech meaning the light mech would have to be combat efficient, highly durable and have an advantage in close combat battle. It would be equipped with weapons too.
Alto drafted something like a rough draft of the vision he had in mind. The next thing he had to address might have been his biggest problem yet and that being the cost of fabrication.
Since his base model would be the Fenwick-720 he would need to cover the cost of the virtual parts and they were not cheap. Alto chose to address that when the time came. Aside from that there was the challenge of the amount of time he would spend building a mech, he wanted to finish designing the mech in a day and use the remaining time to fabricate it and sell it.
He had no idea how hard the process truly would be, instead of taking a moment to rest Alto decided to go through the Fenwick-720's specifications once more. It was a generation 2 mech that came out at the great rise of mechs, it's designer was Redshot Enterprise. At the time Redshot Enterprise was one of the early startups who dared to challenge the world of new mechs, it was a time when different corporations fought for dominance in the world of mech designs, they knew that whoever managed to ride the waves would emerge as a bug name in future. It was late in this time that the Zentrix Corporation started to gain recognition.
Unfortunately for Redshot Enterprise they fell short, the pioneer of the once booming business was a rich playboy who has just finished from a prestigious mech institution, he was said to be a big shot. When the era of mechs started to progress with new found technology he had used all of his wealth to gather as many technicians as he could to build mechs. His first designs was somewhat operable but he got drunk on his success and thought to mass release new models. In the long run he overworked his entire staff and creates many models that never got approved.
Alto did not know how he was supposed to feel but in a way he was grateful that he would benefit from someone's failure. So maybe being a mech designer meant benefiting from someone's failure. He initiated the digital mech workshop of the game and brought up a realistic 3D version of the Fenwick-720 he looked at it and admired it. It looked sustainable at best and with his improved knowledge of that era and the guidance of the mech designer protocol he would be able to create an even better mech.
[The mech designer protocol is forbidden from aiding the user in any of his ongoing projects. When the project is completed the mech designer protocol will review the user and offer rewards where needed.]
Alto regretted even asking the system in the first place but he soon got over it and began to rework the Fenwick-720 model. It was in that moment that Alto realised that he was beginning to enjoy working on mechs.
