Chapter 4256 The Scent of the Sun
"I can only express my gratitude in words now. Go, Mr. Hamilton, God must have other plans, and I look forward to your next visit."
Ms. Thorne also bid farewell to Shad and escorted him to the elevator door behind the screen wall. As he went upstairs, Shad was still wondering what the gods wanted from him this time, but such thoughts were meaningless. After reaching the tightly closed door on the second floor, Shad bent down and pushed the door open forcefully.
A warm light shone from the tall figure onto Shad, and a loving, maternal gaze fell upon him. After Shad had taken his place, God said:
“I sensed your slight doubt. You seem to have realized through that ray of sunlight that you have a very high talent for the power of the sun.”
Shad never expected that the gods had sought him out for this very reason:
"Yes. I've had this feeling before when I came into contact with other solar forces, and I think there must be a reason for it."
Xia De hesitated for a moment:
"Every gain has a cause. Do you know why?"
God smiled, offering no reply, but instead extended his hand to Shad once more. The warm light turned somewhat cold, and the golden light from the divine body's fingertips transformed into silver during the delivery, the silver ray entering Shad's body.
[Stranger, you have absorbed the spiritual essence of the ancient moon god.]
The magical technique "Moonfire" has been further refined, with its original characteristics comprehensively enhanced.
Shad looked incredulously at the god's withdrawn hand:
"That's the power of the moon!"
He was quite certain that no myth or legend ever recorded any connection between this "god of love" and the ancient moon goddess.
"Although the twin ancient gods are not one, the sun and the moon have a closer connection than any other power in this world."
"But why do you possess the Spirit of the Moon?"
God smiled gently:
"Child who has carried everything, this is merely a gift; it is time for you to depart. Remember to praise the sun, and may the moon be with you."
Before the time was up, a white mist appeared and enveloped Shad. Then Shad felt someone push him, and he had to take a step forward. The mist then dissipated, and "she" softly reminded Shad that the mission was over. As Shad stepped out of the room, he saw Winnie, Dorothy, and Lacey waiting for him at home.
"Even though you were only gone for three seconds, I still want to say—welcome back. How was the mission?"
Lacey said with a smile, while Dorothy noticed the look of astonishment on Shad's face:
"What's wrong, Shad?"
Xiaomia had already come to Xia De's feet. After sniffing at him, the cat meowed gently as if it had smelled something delicious, and tugged at Xia De's trouser leg with its paws, indicating that he should pick it up.
Winnie also sniffed a few times; the crystal-clear maid was very sensitive to this power.
"Warmth, dryness, and nourishment for all things—this is the power of the sun."
"Meow!"
The cat, which Shad had picked up, squinted and rubbed against him. Dorothy and Lacey, who had walked up to Shad, also noticed that the color of the veins on Shad's neck and wrists was a little off.
What happened to you?
The girls asked with concern, and Xia De glanced at the door behind him again before returning to room number one on the second floor with everyone, where he recounted his experience.
"So, that deity not only gave you the essence of sunlight and moon, but also promised to tell you how to make the 'Seed of Life' after the mission is over? You're really lucky this time. This deity is very friendly to you, a complete opposite of the last one."
Lacey praised him, but in her heart she was thinking about the demonic eyes that Shad had described. Dorothy, on the other hand, understood what Shad was hesitating about:
"If you still have doubts, you can consult that benevolent deity again next time. Only these truly great beings can know the myths of the sun and moon. What is Xiaomia doing?"
Everyone had already sat down on the sofa, and Mia was lying on Shad's lap, still gently sniffing.
Shad stroked the cat's head and pressed down its two perky ears:
"It probably smelled the sunshine. But I originally thought it would be as affectionate as it is with catnip when I came back, but I didn't expect it to react so coldly. It seems that sunshine is not very attractive to Mia, at least not as attractive as the goat milk every morning."
Lacey covered her mouth and laughed:
“I remember that catnip doesn’t appeal to most kittens. Even though Mia is two years old, she still looks like a kitten.”
Winnie then said:
"In any case, that benevolent god is a genuine good god, so this mission should be much easier."
Xia De nodded:
"Yes, as long as those mortals who come to visit don't have any strange motives. What brings Ms. Thorne and those twin old women here?"
The "sunlight" now contained within Shad seems to be something extremely aligned with the essence of the sun. Shad wanted to cut his wrists so the girls could see his golden blood, but they didn't share that idea:
"You should hurry up and take this sunshine to find Wei Ge."
Shad considered saving some of his blood from his current state, thinking it might be useful in the future, but "she" reminded him:
[Once sunlight is captured by other individuals, even if the blood exists independently, the power it contains will disappear.]
Actually, the sunlight was most useful to Iluna. Today was Sunday, and Iluna was either at church or resting at home. So, before heading to the Arcadia region, Shad went to Iluna's rented apartment to find her.
Luckily, Shad arrived at the apartment building just as Iluna was about to leave. Seeing Shad and Mia alighting from the carriage, the eighteen-year-old girl smiled and asked:
"Shad, good morning. It's quite rare to see Xiaomia willing to go out with you."
Then, just like Mia, she gently sniffed a few times:
What's that smell on you?
She sniffed a few more times, a blush rising to her cheeks:
"Warm, dry, and vibrant. This smells really good."
"I just opened a key and came up with some goodies. Iluna, are you on your way to the church?"
Iluna shook her head:
"Luvia invited me to her apartment today; she wants to do a divination for me. Do you want to come along? Luvia said she's prepared some really good black tea."
So the two of them went to Luvia's rented apartment together. The girl with purple eyes was surprised to see that Shad had come along, but she was mostly happy.
After she brewed the black tea, Shad recounted the task corresponding to the key given by "desire." Luvia and Iluna listened attentively, and only after Shad finished speaking did Iluna confirm:
"So the smell on you is because of that ray of sunlight?"
"Yes. Iluna, has the Church of the Sun ever recorded any special power like 'sunlight'?"
As Shad spoke, he opened his right hand, and a warm yellow light appeared. Xiaomia rubbed against Shad's right hand again, and Iluna subconsciously reached out and grasped Shad's hand to feel that power. After noticing Luvia smiling at them, Iluna shyly let go of Shad.
“I’ve never heard of it in real life, but I’ve read about it in ancient books. It must be a power that only appeared in an era when ancient gods still existed.”
Iluna described it in a few simple words:
"Pure, warm, this is gentler than the power of sunlight I use. I usually regard the sun as the supreme power, but your sunlight shows its warm side."
"So, would you like to try this power?"
Shad then extended another invitation, and Iluna, understanding Shad's meaning, immediately shook her head:
"I'm not that shameless witch, I would never drink your blood."
She looked at Shad's palm again, then mimicked Shad's gesture by extending her right hand. Warm sunlight appeared, though it differed slightly from the sunlight Shad displayed, it was already very similar:
"Besides, now that I've seen it, I think I understand."
Shad blinked, and Luvia continued to smile:
“Shad, Iluna’s talent is not much worse than yours.”
"Meow~"
The cat reminded Shad to continue petting it, without looking at the light in Iluna's hand. After all, in the cat's eyes, that ball of sunlight wasn't pure; it could radiate it if it wanted to.
Luvia and Iluna discussed Shad's time-traveling adventure with him again. They couldn't help him with regaining his memories, as Shad still needed to find Sirius. Regarding the blasphemers, Iluna solemnly told Shad that the scriptures of the Church of the Sun also recorded the punishments for true blasphemers, and that the Church of the Sun's punishments were far more severe than those of the merciful god.
Luvia was more interested in Ms. Thorne's eyes:
"Clearly, she went to the Sea of Origin and encountered something there, thus gaining the power of 'life'. What an interesting magic eye, making a life capable of bearing offspring pregnant instantly. This already involves the most fundamental power of the 'creation' realm, doesn't it?"
“I suspect she encountered the First Child that Shad spoke of.”
Iluna said that Shad agreed with this guess:
"I just don't know how she survived. If we can learn from Ms. Thorne's experience, it will definitely help us. I even suspect that the ancestors of the Burgundy family had a similar experience to Ms. Thorne, except that the power they gained was different from that witch's."
"The Burgundy family's affairs are probably not that simple."
Luvia said:
"Then remember to go find Hillis and ask her to find a way to help those witches with amnesia regain their memories. But for now, you should go to Vigo and give her that sunlight. Don't take the sunlight around. Even with my eyes closed, I can feel a warm light sitting next to me. Even Mia can smell that you're different. I'm afraid you'll attract some other strange things."
