Chapter 4000 Danist's Letter

Chapter 4000 Danist's Letter

"The alchemists weren't telling the truth, or rather, they only told half the truth. It seems they've already covered their tracks and fabricated evidence. Even if I report them to the church for having connections with the [Holy Son Alliance], they won't be afraid."

Leaning against the pillows, Vige took the letter that Xia De had finished reading:

"The vast majority of alchemists are absolute rationalists and egoists. The most important reason why they did not become an organization like the Truth Society is that they were not as bold as the Truth Society."

I know you probably think I'm prejudiced against the Alchemist Guild. I admit that; I even wondered before if they were the ones who drove my mother to her death, but my assessment of them was absolutely correct.

Xia De then asked curiously:

"This question may be a bit presumptuous, but was your mother's death related to them?"

"There is no direct relationship, but there is an indirect one. After the group my mother led had an accident, they kept pressuring her to produce information about her research results and belongings, but my mother did not respond to them."

Even without their coercion, my mother, who was also affected by the power of the [Jade Record], wouldn't have lived much longer, but their coercion definitely made her condition worse.

Wei Ge spoke expressionlessly, revealing that after learning about the words deep within her soul yesterday, she was actually confused about how to understand her mother:

"I'll handle the matter of the Jade Alchemy Association. I'll find a way to get them to reveal more. As for Mother and the Jade Record, it seems I need to examine Mother's belongings again."

Shad didn't leave the area all afternoon, waiting for another explosion from the Church of Creation, or for a battle between ring mages to break out. But whether the incident was truly resolved peacefully, or the church had done a good job of covering it up this time, no unusual sounds came from anywhere all afternoon.

As the evening glow appeared outside the window, Mia, who had slept all afternoon, woke up refreshed, but Shad still hadn't received any clues that he could analyze.

"You're not expecting the [Creation Church] to actually be besieged by the other four churches, are you?"

As Vivi was getting ready to get up for dinner, she smiled and asked Xia De, who was walking towards the door to make it easier for her to change, "What do you mean?" Xia De shook his head.

"I'm just curious about what exactly happened there."

Because he wanted to find out information, Xia De told the girls this morning before leaving home that he would be having dinner at Wei Ge's place.

This was also the first time Shade had stayed overnight at Vige's place. The witch still held a small hope that Shade would stay the night. Even if Shade stayed in a guest room, she could use the excuse of "not feeling well and needing someone to check on me" to visit him at night.

However, Shad had no intention of staying overnight. He knew that Luvia was definitely still waiting for news at home, so he planned to go back at 7:30 p.m.

At exactly seven o'clock that evening, a pigeon carrying a letter appeared on the windowsill outside Viggo's bedroom window. The red moon was reflected in the pigeon's eyes, and Shad and Mia noticed it at the same time.

After handing the letter to Shad, the red moon in the pigeon's eyes disappeared. It seemed puzzled as to how it had ended up there, and then it flew unsteadily back into the night.

There were no words on the envelope, nor on the letter inside. However, after Shad waved his hand and summoned the light of the silver moon to illuminate the letter, Danist's handwriting appeared.

“I have a friend in St. Byron who also participated in today’s operation.”

The letter was short, and after reading it, Xia De shared the information with Wei Ge:

"The situation is complicated. The Church of Creation does not admit to using the power of calamity, but they do admit to conducting experiments on mechanical activation and to knowing about the 'Spark of Life' a long time ago."

Following communication, the three major academies and the Four Gods Church dispatched representatives to the Vatican this afternoon to search, but they did not find the enormous 'source of fire' I sensed. However, even so, it is a confirmed fact that the [Church of Creation] violated its own established rules.

Xia De sat down again, gesturing to Wei Ge not to ask any questions yet:

"The most important information is that the Church of Creation explained why they knew about and came into contact with the 'Spark of Life' and why they created the activated machinery. They deciphered a fragment of a verse a long time ago, and that fragment corresponds to the chosen ones of creation."

"The tenth selected person?"

"Judging from the current situation, it should be so. The fragments deciphered by the Church of Creation give one of the basic conditions for becoming a chosen one, which is to carry out a successful 'creation' and create something that has never existed in this world before."

This fragment isn't even a complete sentence, so the condition certainly isn't simply inventing new machinery. The Church of Creation also understood that 'creation' here wouldn't be simple; otherwise, simply having a child would have perfectly met the requirements. Their final conclusion was to attempt to create activated machinery.

Shad sighed:

"My friend didn't explain it clearly in the letter, but the influence of the 'mechanical school' that has always existed within the [Creation Church] is also involved. Since the steam age, the power of this faction within the church has been growing, thus enabling it to influence the overall decision-making of the church to a greater extent."

I'm not particularly concerned with the complex political issues and follow-up investigations; the key question now is, where did that giant 'Spark' go?

Wei Ge raised an eyebrow:

"Shouldn't the key now be the tenth candidate?"

"The matter of the chosen ones is only just beginning to emerge, but once that 'Spark' is completely out of control, I can even imagine scenes like 'Arcadia City standing up'."

Shad said with certainty:

"If the [Creation Church] had handed over the source of fire and confessed its sins, I would have thought that the church had only some minor internal problems, which led it to study things it shouldn't have. Now that they have denied the existence of the source of fire, there must be major problems within the church, at least at the higher levels, and there must be bad people among them."

"Bad guy? That's such a childish way of putting it."

Wei Ge said with a smile, and Xia De shook his head:

"This matter is of great importance. Since the summer of 1853, it has been the Pentateuch Church that has maintained the basic order of the material world in an increasingly chaotic era. If something goes wrong with a part of the world order we have today, it is hard to say what the consequences would be if it triggered a chain reaction."

In Luvia's past lives, no matter how strong she was, she couldn't maintain world order alone when the Church of the Five Gods suffered losses and gradually collapsed. That's why Shad, knowing the consequences, seemed somewhat anxious.

"It's just that we can't be sure how many people within the [Church of Creation] know about the 'Source of Fire' yet. I think not many people know the specifics; most people only know that there's a method for activating some kind of machinery, but they don't know that the truth is a calamity."

The number and status of those who know the truth will determine the course of this event, and even the fate of the world.

Wei Ge leaned against the pillow, gazing at his handsome face:

Are you worried about the future of the world?

"Yes."

"How interesting. Even ordinary ring mages, even those at the tenth, eleventh, or twelfth ring level, wouldn't speak with the tone of someone who seems to carry the world on their shoulders. You've done some amazing things, haven't you?"

She asked gently, and Xia De and Wei Ge, who was turned to the side, looked at each other for a moment, blinked, and then chose not to lie:

"Yes, I did some things, which could be called 'saving the world' for now."

Wei Ge smiled broadly:

"I knew it, the person I set my sights on must be extraordinary."

She didn't care what Shad had done:

"But don't worry too much. The investigation into the Church of Creation has only been going on for a day. There might be other twists and turns later. Perhaps that giant 'source of fire' has been destroyed, and the Church of Creation will never touch this kind of experiment again."

This was the best possible outcome, but Shad was skeptical, and hastily destroying the "Spark" could also have serious consequences. However, he decided to wait and see how things unfolded; it wasn't time to rush things.

"Let's wait for your friend's news regarding the [Creation Church] matter. Don't you have many things to take care of in the city?"

Wei Ge continued to persuade him, and Xia De nodded:

"Yes, I didn't expect things to get so bad in just one week. But at least this time, there were no ancient evils, demons, or ancient beings who knew about the past of the mythical era. The troublemakers are all modern people."

"What did you say?"

Wei Ge asked curiously, and Xia De shook his head again:

"Let's not repeat it again, I'm afraid I might actually shout it out. But with things so lively at the Vatican right now, even if those things really do appear, at least our local fighting strength is sufficient, which is probably the best news for now."

Shad talked with Viggo for a while before saying goodbye to the witch and returning home. Before Miss McDonald went into the bedroom, the witch was already thinking about whether she should try to pretend to be sick in the future so that Shad would stay with her like he did today.

But she quickly dismissed the idea, because she believed she could use her "real skills" to keep Shad by her side.

When Shad brought Mia home, it was already quite dark. And sure enough, Luvia and Galina, who were waiting for news, were both at home.

"how is the situation?"

"It's neither good nor bad. Daniste contacted me, and the biggest gain so far is a fragment of a poem. The tenth story is finally about to begin."

Tifa and the others had anticipated that their masters would have a serious evening meeting, so tea and snacks had been prepared in advance. Shad quickly washed up and changed his clothes, then spoke with Luvia and Galina about the letter Danist had sent that night.
