Chapter 3806 Shade and the Mermaid

Chapter 3806 Shade and the Mermaid

Chapter 3806 Shade and the Mermaid

She smiled faintly at Xia De, her expression still one of loneliness and vulnerability:

"Shad, why do you want to understand me? You already have so many radiant witches around you. They are either younger than me, stronger than me, or able to accompany you for longer, or have more in common with you."

As for me, I'm not worth your time to understand.

The "she" beside him smiled gently, and the ashamed stranger under the moonlight realized that the Sylvie before him was indeed a composite of falsehood and reality. Because she had forgotten the true reality, she could now say things that she herself had been unwilling to admit before.

Sylvia Aurora was the second great witch Shad met after Galina, but in terms of the development of their relationship, although they did many very intimate things, their relationship lagged behind that of Sylvia, Vanessa, and Megan, who appeared later.

Although what she was saying was stating the facts, to Shad it sounded like a self-reproach.

However, the outsider's confusion about relationships and self-doubt had disappeared last year. Now that he had identified the problem, he was willing to take the initiative to confront it.

"Sevi, since I couldn't take things to the next level with you in the past, at least now, can I get closer to you?"

She neither agreed nor disagreed, but instead started talking about unrelated things:

"You know what, Shad, I really like you."

The straightforward confession contained emotions that almost suffocated the outsider:

"From the very beginning in Lengshuigang, I've watched you move forward step by step, watching you gather more and more girls to climb towards the highest peak in this world. I'm willing to watch over you with them, to lift you up, but sometimes I also want to see more of myself in your eyes."

“Sevi, it’s me.”

"Because of those forces, I live alone in this manor. I am lonely and isolated, but the fire in my heart has never been extinguished. His Excellency the Speaker said that I need to stay away from people and things that cause me intense emotional fluctuations, but with no one to talk to, my soul burns even more fiercely."

She looked at Xia De in front of her, and used her right hand to lift a strand of hair that was hanging down by her ear:

Am I beautiful, Shad?

"Yes, you are beautiful."

"If that's the case, why can't you just keep a proper eye on me?"

She rose from the edge of the fountain, and light gathered in her free right hand, transforming into a scepter that was not ornately decorated. Behind her, a life ring and a golden staircase appeared together, but both were very blurry, and Shad could not discern their specific levels or rune information.

"Shad, if I break your limbs, will you stay with me in this manor that belongs only to me?"

She asked softly, and only then did Shad notice that Sylvie was barefoot. It seems like there have been a lot of barefoot girls lately.

She chuckled softly in Shad's ear, and Shad tried hard not to think about those strange things:

“Sevi, I want to take you away.”

"It's always like this, it's always like this, it's all the same for you."

She transformed into a slow yet exquisitely beautiful arc of light, rushing towards Shad. It didn't seem particularly fast, but Shad felt the hairs on his body stand on end.

This was definitely not the power possessed by the Great Witch of Light whom he knew. Although it was an arc of light formed from the moonlight at this moment, it did not contain any moonlight attribute; it only contained the pure qualities of light itself.

Knowing that Sylvie really wanted to take him down, Shad didn't dare to be careless. He crossed his arms in front of him and transformed into an arc of moonlight as he rushed forward—after all, he only wanted to get close to Sylvie and find out about her current situation.

The two arcs of light collided on the central path in the courtyard. The collision of light was silent, with only specks of light scattering into the quiet night.

The two figures crossed paths. Shad, who had steadied himself in front of the fountain, immediately turned around. The previous exchange could only be considered a draw; his Moonlight Slash had not gained any advantage over Sylvie.

The witch stood barefoot where Shad had just stood. She didn't continue her attack, but instead turned her back to Shad, raising her slender right hand as if to touch the moon above her head, and whispered:

"You know, Shad, although light is the most important component of this world, most of the light does not belong to light itself."

The sun's light belongs to the sun, and the moon's light belongs to the moon. Light is always just a backdrop; it always needs to be mixed with other forces to be revealed.

Just like me, I am the witch Sylvie Aurora. Without the identity of a witch, what am I in the council, in your eyes?

“Sevi, I don’t like you because you’re a witch.”

Under the moonlight, barefoot Sylvie withdrew her right arm, turned to look at Shad with a serene smile:

“Shad, once I break your limbs and force you to stay here, you’ll have plenty of time to say these things to me. I love hearing your sweet nothings; they’re sweeter than honey water, yet they never make me feel sick.”

With her arms outstretched, the witch clapped her pale palms together, then opened them, unleashing a beam of pure white light. The thick beam of light seemed poised to destroy the entire building behind the fountain, but upon touching Shad, it silently vanished into the night.

The [Nightfall Sign], having absorbed the light, disappeared only after Sylvie ceased her attack. Shad watched her:

"Could you please hold back and let me say a few words first?"

Sylvie's voice was ethereal yet detached:

“Shad, your words always make us happy, but I want more than just your words. So much time has passed since we met in 1853. Do you remember what happened when we first met?”

"Of course, you pulled me out of the closet."

"I was able to hold onto you then, and I can still hold onto you now."

She transformed into light once more, moving at a speed almost equivalent to teleportation. The light imprisoned Shad's entire body, but then his body scattered into a vast array of red butterflies.

But the light caught every red butterfly that tried to fly away, and the red butterflies quickly gathered together and transformed into handless and footless silver snakes, escaping from the web of white light.

The silver snake transformed back into Shad, but as soon as Shad regained his human form, Sylvie, now transformed into light, reached out and embraced him. A red dress clung to Shad's coat, her white skirt pressing against him. Her right arm encircled Shad's waist, and as she kissed him, her left hand reached downwards—just like before.

"Sevi!"

Her body melted into the light and disappeared once again.

The "she" beside him was still laughing; she had been laughing since the beginning. Shad slapped his forehead hard with his right hand, sighed, and the song returned to his ears, this time sounding even more lonely and desolate.

The sound originated from underground, making it sound exceptionally muffled. After using [Enhanced Spatial Awareness] to determine the underground conditions of the manor, Shad stepped from the courtyard into the basement. Once he located the hidden, damp chapel, he entered the underground passage, which was completely sealed off in the real world.

The secret passage had collapsed when "Desire" left, and Sylvie later sealed it using a secret technique from the Witch Council. But in this illusory yet real world, the passage is almost exactly the same as when Shad first entered it.

Returning here after two years, Xia De was filled with emotion.

At the end of the secret passage was a tightly closed iron door. The singing was coming from behind the door. Shad had indeed worried that the singing wasn't from Sylvie, but from something familiar. But out of concern for Sylvie, he still pushed open the iron door amidst the jarring creaking sound.

Behind the door was a small, square, dark room. In the center of the room was a pool that occupied three-quarters of the space. There were no lights in the dark room, but the pool from which the singing came shone faintly, as if there was a light source beneath the pool.

The memory seemed to instantly transport him back two years. Xia De carefully walked to the edge of the pool and then saw that what was in the pool was indeed not "desire," but truly a mermaid.

Sylvie, with her human body and mermaid tail, was singing softly in the pool. Shad had seen Sylvie in her mermaid form before, so he wasn't surprised by her appearance.

Her brown hair cascaded across the water. She stopped singing and extended her arms to Shad from the water, extending an invitation:

"Want to come with me?"

The underwater light allowed Shad to clearly see Sylvie's figure. Although her lower body was not human, her upper body, which was completely naked, was captivating enough.

She caught Shad's gaze, and then stretched her body as if deliberately showing off her figure, making it even clearer to Shad.

Having seen her under the moonlight not long ago, Shad easily shifted his gaze to Sylvie's face this time:

"What kind of power do you actually gain from 'desire'?"

Shad initially received the purest "great sin," but it is clear that what Sevier received was not sin, nor even the most superficial "se/desire" represented by "desire."

She submerged her entire body in the pool, leaving only her nose and upper body above the water:

"The Lady of Desire wanted to give me the power of desire, but I refused, so she gave me cursed desire, the most terrifying curse for mortals—love."

Shad, do you know why love is a curse?

Shad shook his head, and Sevier replied:

"Because when you fall in love with someone, you are no longer just yourself. Your soul will be imbued with their colors, and your nature will change because of another person. Love is the collision of two destinies, the process of two souls changing each other."

This is the curse that wisdom bestows upon life, and it is also the most difficult curse to understand and break.
