Chapter 3598 The Morning of Farewell
"If I want to summon mist, wouldn't it be simpler to use magic spells?"
Shad asked again, and Luvia laughed as well:
"I don't know what this resonance technique is for either. Just remember this information. This is a story of destiny, and the most common destiny-related power among ring sorcerers is actually our life rings."
The core runes reveal the path we are destined to take, while each individual rune is a symbolic representation of our destiny along the path we have already traversed. Remember these, and when we meet again, tell me if they were of any use to you.
"Actually, I want to try it now."
As he spoke, Xia De summoned his life ring. Just as the steam mist appeared in the study, he had been asking himself:
"If I want you to resonate with me, do I need to say things like 'You are me'?"
She smiled gently, but did not give any answer.
Then Luvia, sitting across the table, saw a silver shadow appear behind Shad, and then...
"Huh? Is the house on fire?"
As soon as Galina went upstairs, she saw a huge amount of white steam billowing out from under the study door. Dorothy, who came out of the kitchen, also rushed over to check. When the two opened the study door, the heat that hit them almost made them hold their breath. Deep within the thick steam, Shad and Luvia remained seated on either side of the desk, motionless.
The purple eyes still shone even in the mist:
"Shad, you're right, it really doesn't work. How are you feeling now?"
"This steam doesn't obstruct my vision, but I feel my soul power spreading with it. Well, it's gone."
The ring of life was still spinning, but the steam mist that served as the "entrance effect" had disappeared.
Dorothy, quite displeased, "reprimanded" the two people in the study:
"If you want to do any experiments, can't you go to Green Lake or Vista Forest? What if the neighbors think there's a fire in their house and end up calling the municipal fire department?"
Jialina stood to the side, smiling.
After a sumptuous dinner was served, Shad and the three ladies sat down at the table. Shad then recounted Miss Asperger's visit that afternoon. Galina, who had long heard of this thirteen-ring sorceress, couldn't help but exclaim:
When will I be able to become a thirteenth ring?
Luvia then asked:
"So that stone harp is Frostmourne, and it's definitely usable, right?"
"The relics definitely meet the requirements; it's just a matter of whether Stella can be successfully recognized by it."
"Alright, once I get to the island, I'll talk to that white-haired girl. The fortune teller will guide her on the future."
During dinner, the conversation inevitably turned to Adelina's birthday the next day.
Although an eighteenth birthday is not as significant as a sixteenth coming-of-age ceremony in this era, Adelina, as a relatively favored princess, will still have a birthday banquet tomorrow. However, with war approaching, the royal family does not want the public to think that they are being too extravagant, so tomorrow's birthday banquet will not be large in scale and will only be held in a side hall of Yodl Palace.
Shad has promised to attend the banquet if he is free, and plans to give Adelina the gift he has prepared tomorrow.
This reminded Luvia, who then asked Dorothy at the dinner table:
"Does Adelina have time during the day tomorrow? I mean, at least three hours that would be a reasonable amount of time away from the Yodel Palace."
Dorothy was confused, and while Lacia was giving her her answer, Galina directly answered Luvia:
"Of course there is. She just needs to make all the preparations for the birthday party before 3 p.m. tomorrow. During the day, let her stay in her room by herself, arrange for a few maids to do her makeup and help her choose clothes, and then have her show up at lunchtime. That way, no one will know what she does at other times."
Luvia nodded:
"Shad, why don't you take Adelina to Fatumunst Island tomorrow? Emilia's coming too, isn't she?"
Dorothy was very surprised:
"Is this a gift for Adelina?"
“Of course not, Shad. Once we get to the island, have Adelina use the snake slough. Don’t you have the doctor and the two snake sloughs you found with Jean? I need to know the information on Adelina’s snake slough after I arrive on the island.”
She didn't say what she wanted to do, but the request was easy to fulfill.
“No problem, Adelina will be very happy.”
"Since it's Adelina's birthday, I'll help cover for her tomorrow too."
Galina also said, gracefully setting down her knife and fork and wiping her lips with a napkin:
"So, of the remaining four acts, only the love story, the ice flower, and the card game remain unclear. Didn't Shad say the latter is related to [Origin·Destiny]? Well then, Shad, have you figured out how to get it? I'm thinking of breaking into the Prophet's Association headquarters and stealing it without anyone noticing. That shouldn't be easy, right?"
Shad really wants [Genesis Destiny], but he won't steal it:
"Let's see how things go. If it's really as Chairman Le Norman said, and he can invite me—I mean, it would be best if I went to the snow mountain under the identity of Shad Hamilton. But I'm also wondering if he was testing the true identity of the 'Caller of Gods' when he said that."
"It shouldn't be that I'm associating you with the Summoners. You have no idea how unique your destiny is. So, when I get to headquarters, I'll look into that card for you. Shad, if you want it, I'll definitely get it for you."
Galina and Dorothy laughed when they heard her say that. Luvia asked them what they were laughing at, and Dorothy chuckled and replied:
“This is something men usually say to women, but now it’s the other way around. So I was thinking about what it would be like if Shad became very weak and feminine.”
"It's best not to think that way."
"Shad said, and even Luvia laughed."
That evening, after continuing to learn the Silver Flute from Dorothy, Shad went to Green Lake Island, where the weather was best. There, he completed the "charging" of the Silver Gem and made the gem for Claire.
Since Luvia was leaving temporarily, Dorothy and Galina gave her the evening. However, Luvia eventually insisted that they join in, giving the following reason:
"I don't want to be unable to get up tomorrow; it would be terrible if I missed the meeting time."
Early Monday morning, after breakfast, Shad took Luvia to the Tobesk train station. When he appeared alongside the local association's farewell crowd, carrying Luvia's two suitcases, no one was surprised by his appearance.
The diviners who gathered in the Topsk region would travel by train to a small town in the south, from where they would board steam-powered airships to travel to the southern principality. Although the concept of a "no-fly zone" did not exist in this era, aircraft would not appear in the skies above the royal capital, Topsk, unless absolutely necessary.
"I won't see Luvia again until this Thursday."
After waving goodbye to the departing train with its whistle, Shad spoke to Iluna, who had also come to see him off. Iluna had avoided the crowd of the Prophet's Association and only appeared at the last moment.
It snowed lightly in Tobesk today, and the people seeing people off on the platform were all bundled up. Iluna's long brown hair was tied up, and she wore a white woolen scarf around her neck, which made her look very youthful.
"I should be heading to Fatummister soon, but I don't need to stop anywhere else, so it should only take a day or two to get there."
She and Shad walked side by side with the crowd toward the station exit; even on a Monday morning, Tobeskoye train station was still bustling.
"You just mentioned that Adelina and Emilia are going to the island today? Could you please say hello to them for me? I have other things to do and won't be able to meet up with them."
"There will be time when you get to the island."
Upon exiting the train station, Iluna glanced at the public horse-drawn carriages parked across the street, but Shad didn't head that way. Instead, he turned left towards the Blackstone Security Company. Seeing that he intended to walk her to work, Iluna followed beside Shad.
Monday morning, the city was bustling with life as people began another week of hustle and bustle in their quest for a living.
On their way, Shad and Iluna encountered a girl selling matches. Unlike in fairy tales, though her clothes were worn, she still wore perfectly good shoes. So when the two arrived at the Blackstone Security Company building, Iluna found herself carrying a paper bag of bread and a large bundle of matches.
She smiled and waved goodbye to Shad. After entering the room, she handed out matches and bread to Mrs. Celia, who was wearing a wig and knitting a sweater, at the reception desk on the first floor.
"Iluna, are you so happy this morning? Who were you saying goodbye to outside the door just now?"
“It’s Mr. Hamilton. I met him on the way and he offered to give me a ride to work. Well, I’m going upstairs now. Has the captain returned from church? I wonder what new missions we have this week.”
She went upstairs excitedly, and Mrs. Celia chased away the black cat that wanted to nibble on the bread. Thinking of the famous detective's reputation in the area, she muttered, "Silly girl."
In his haste to leave in the morning, Shad hadn't had time to pick up his gift for the week. When he got home, he carried the gift box upstairs. Only Mia was home; Dorothy had gone to submit her social media post, so only the cat watched as Shad reached into the box.
Last week's gift was a gold coin representing the number "1". Shad felt that it would be great if this week's gift was also a gold coin, since one can never have too many points in fate.
But when he reached in, he only touched a scroll:
"A scroll containing occult knowledge?"
