Chapter 4760 Murderous Intent on a Rainy Night (Part Six)
However, it's not fair to blame Arkham Batman for misunderstanding. That plot summary, combined with the opening sequence, was indeed very misleading, leading everyone to believe that the main storyline involved sealing away the demon and then rescuing the eldest son.
The main storyline might indeed be like this. However, since Schiller still appears to be a human being, people will immediately assume he's the possessed eldest son. Therefore, the more the demon is sealed away, the closer the eldest son should become to an ordinary person, and thus, the weaker he should become.
But in reality, Schiller's role might not be that of the eldest son's soul within this body, but rather the soul of the devil. That passive ability to grow stronger with each injury also follows the devil's lead. The more the devil is sealed away, the weaker he becomes, while the weaker Schiller becomes, the stronger he grows. Dr. Manhattan, are you out of your mind?!
Despite his complaints, Batman Arkham felt this was the kind of intensity he wanted. Seeing Schiller break down the door, he didn't hesitate, jumping down from the patio, landing with a roll to escape Schiller's sight, and then running towards the nearest side door.
He rushed into the garden again, but instead of running deeper into it, he circled around, intending to re-enter through the main gate. Just as he reached the main gate, he saw Schiller waiting for him there.
He stood alone on the rain-soaked steps, his features obscured by the raindrops, but his grey eyes remained fixed on Arkham Batman. The emptiness and confusion within them had vanished; he was now fully focused.
Arkham Batman realized almost immediately that the weakness caused by the seal must have unlocked a new ability—his gaze could now pass through walls. And when Arkham Batman jumped down, his back must have been exposed.
Arkham Batman sighed inwardly, then turned and ran.
He wasn't unaware that continuing to turn his back could have serious consequences, but he had no choice in the situation. The wound on his shoulder, though small, was bleeding. He estimated he only had about half a tube of blood left; in a best-case scenario, he could withstand two more cuts, but in a worst-case scenario, he might only have one more chance left.
Schiller followed behind him. Arkham Batman was running, while Schiller was walking, but he was faster than Arkham Batman, though not by much. If they continued walking in a straight line, he would definitely catch up.
The violin music kept echoing in Arkham Batman's ears, accompanied by the patter of rain and the deafening roar of thunder, like a symphony of death. As the distance drew closer and the music grew more urgent, Arkham Batman abruptly stopped.
He stopped under the big tree in the middle of the garden, then with a whip kick, he sent the drooping branches crashing to the ground, and continued running, while Schiller had to use his knife to cut the branches.
There's hope! Arkham Batman realized that he absolutely couldn't outrun Schiller in an open area; he needed to find some obstacles. Luckily, Schiller couldn't teleport.
He ran to the other side of the tree, but there were no more drooping branches. Luckily, he spotted a storage room filled with gardening tools. As Arkham Batman ran over, he knocked over a nearby flowerpot, forcing Schiller to walk around it.
Then he would kick over the shovel next to him, making Schiller jump over it, which would buy him some time. Or he would spill the bags of dirt all over the ground, forcing Schiller to take a longer route.
He had already realized that Schiller wasn't particularly agile. Perhaps it was because the devil and this body weren't a good match, so although he could walk like a normal person and be exceptionally fast, he couldn't perform certain maneuvers such as double jumps or dodging.
After waiting a short while, his skills recovered, and Arkham Batman used a stun to create some distance. But this couldn't go on. Number 1 and Number 2 were probably close to death, and Number 4 had taken a hit and was hiding. That left only him and Number 5 who could move freely, but Number 5 was completely unreliable. He couldn't drag this out any longer.
After observing the road ahead, Arkham Batman immediately had a plan. He stalked Schiller around the area a few more times, keeping an eye on Schiller's condition between turns. Once he found he was ready, he ran towards the tree and disappeared behind it in a flash.
After Schiller walked past the tree, Arkham Batman emerged from the treetop. He knew Schiller's wall-penetrating tracking ability couldn't be permanent; it must have a time limit. Once the ability's duration was worn off, he could use a line-of-sight trick to dodge it.
Batman from Arkham didn't immediately jump down from the tree, because he could use it to see where Schiller was going and avoid him. But just then, a white light shone from Schiller's body, which likely meant someone had performed a second sealing.
The next second, those desolate gray eyes looked over again and instantly focused. Arkham Batman cursed and leaped down from the tree, running away.
These teammates are lazy when they should be. It's also their fault for not having team voice chat; they should have told them earlier that the seal might buff Schiller. Now, they're probably doomed too.
As expected, Schiller's wall-penetrating tracking ability was refreshed again. He was walking towards Arkham Batman again, and this time he was even faster. Before, he was just a little faster, but now Arkham Batman hadn't even taken a few steps before he was stabbed again.
"Shh!"
"hiss……"
Arkham Batman took a deep breath, his vision turning blood red. He could feel blood gushing from a wound that ran across his entire back, slowing his movements.
With his last ounce of strength, Arkham Batman unleashed another stun. But clearly, this strike activated Schiller's Wild Hunt mode. The music began to shift, growing increasingly intense. Arkham Batman saw a crimson glow cling to the once silver blade, and Schiller's eyes began to glow red.
"Shh!"
"Uh!!!"
Batman Arkham was instantly slashed down, the words "Near Death" appearing in his vision. He cursed inwardly, but still couldn't dodge the fatal blow. He could only blame the slow communication; his teammates had completed the sealing at that moment, otherwise he could have escaped.
Arkham Batman was briefly dizzy, then found himself lying on the ground. Through the reflection of the raindrops, he saw that Schiller hadn't raised his knife again. Was he unable to deliver the final blow?
Arkham Batman wanted to climb, but clearly he couldn't go very far in this situation. He simply lay there and watched Schiller's next move. Suddenly, Schiller hoisted him up.
This was not unexpected for Batman Arkham. Schiller would unleash even greater power when weakened, sometimes comparable to a train, so carrying someone like him would certainly not be a problem. The question was, where was he going to carry him?
He initially thought he would be thrown into the lake, as it was the nearest place to dispose of a body, and he might be able to kill the perpetrator using the terrain. But Schiller led him into the castle, and after circling around, they found a door at the back of the castle that looked like a cellar, seemingly leading there.
Batman from Arkham immediately realized that sacrificing them might not only require following a specific order but also going to a specific location. Schiller's puzzle might not be any easier to solve than theirs.
Just as Schiller was carrying Arkham Batman down into the cellar, a spider web shot out, causing Schiller to stumble and Arkham Batman to fall to the ground.
Batman from Arkham immediately realized that this must be some kind of setting, that if someone is controlled while being carried, they will definitely fall off, otherwise Schiller would definitely be able to catch him.
Arkham Batman didn't waste the opportunity; he immediately activated his cloak to stun Schiller. Even though he was already on the ground, a gust of wind still lifted the tip of his cloak, knocking Schiller unconscious.
Suddenly, a crimson figure landed beside Arkham Batman. Arkham Batman had to shout at the top of his lungs, "Watch out!!!"
Scarlet Spider remained unmoved, then suddenly pulled out a medkit and began bandaging Arkham Batman. Arkham Batman was astonished. "Don't you want to see who's next to you?!"
The amazing thing is that the first-aid kit was used up in just two seconds, and the web-striking attack combined with the cloak's stun bought him exactly three seconds. Arkham Batman was indeed out of his near-death state and able to move again.
Although the wound on his back was still there, and his health bar was probably less than half, he could at least move around freely. Scarlet Spider didn't climb the wall again; instead, he helped Arkham Batman run outside.
During the escape, Arkham Batman swerved to the left, pulling Scarlet Spider around to the right corner. This was to avoid Schiller's gaze, lest he stare at their back.
Schiller used quite a few skills to catch him just now, so they should all be on cooldown now. As long as he doesn't target his back in reality, it should be relatively easy for him to escape.
"Did you seal it?" Arkham Batman asked Scarlet Spider.
Scarlet Spider-Man shook his head: "It might be Number 1. I saw a figure in a room on the second floor when I was climbing the wall earlier."
"But didn't Number 1 fall?"
“They can be saved,” Scarlet Spider said. “With a medkit or medicine. I rescued Natasha before.”
Even Batman from Arkham couldn't help but give him a thumbs up. If it weren't for Spider-Man, they would have been wiped out by now.
“Black Widow must have saved Constantine,” Batman Arkham speculated, “and then Constantine performed the second seal. It’s just that the timing was unfortunate; I was being chased by him at the time.”
"Who was that last guy?" Scarlet Spider asked.
Batman Arkham shook his head and said, "Don't count on him. That guy's a crazy lunatic, he can do whatever he wants. We need to find the remaining three seals and then seal them all at the same time."
"Why?" Scarlet Spider asked.
"Because sealing won't make the demon weaker, but rather stronger. So if we separate the seal, we'll face an even more terrifying hunt."
“But if, as you say, there’s one person you can’t count on, then the margin for error is too small,” Scarlet Spider cautioned. “It’s almost impossible for four people to seal three at the same time.”
Batman from Arkham was well aware of this. Putting aside the question of whether he could successfully find all three seals while under such intense pursuit, completing the seals simultaneously without communication was virtually impossible.
"Boom—!!!"
Lightning flashed across the night sky once more, illuminating the castle for a fleeting moment, turning it a deathly pale white, like the skeleton of a monster. But the instant the heavens were illuminated by the lightning, Arkham Batman's pupils contracted sharply. He knew what to do.
