Chapter 4399 Project Far Star (Seventeen)
More yellow energy surged into his body, followed by a new round of fighting and transformation. Victor stored a large amount of green energy within him, then grabbed Hal's arm and poured all of it into his ring.
But that's not enough. This only allows Hal to control enough energy the moment he gains self-awareness, but the key to his resurrection lies in the Mother Box.
Victor began trying to connect the Green Lantern energy within Hal's body with the Green Lantern energy within himself. He first controlled the Green Lantern energy within Hal's body to repair his body, restoring all his previous injuries.
Even so, all they got was a perfectly intact corpse. What, then, was the key to bringing the dead back to life?
Victor tried desperately to recall. Soon, fragments of memory began to surface from the depths of his mind—how could he forget that he, too, had died once?
It was only at this moment that Victor finally realized that his father had not cured him, but rather resurrected him.
Previously, due to his mother's death, Victor had never dared to think about this memory in detail, but now he needs to revive his companion, so he can only suppress his grief and fear and search for clues in this memory.
Fortunately, he actually found it. The key is that before he regained consciousness—that is, before he came back to life—he had a hazy memory.
This memory didn't belong to him, but to the Mother Box. He felt himself first placed on a table, then picked up... and then? What happened next?
Victor continued to try to recall. At that moment, his memory overlapped with that of the Mother Box. A powerful white light shone at both the beginning and end of his memory—heat energy! This immense heat energy was the key to activating the Mother Box!
His father used this principle to fully activate the Mother Box and integrate it into his body. But where could he find such a massive amount of heat energy now?!
Victor looked around; the area was barren and desolate, with nothing in sight, let alone a volcano. Just as he was becoming increasingly anxious, a voice suddenly rang out:
"Are you having any trouble, poor thing?"
Victor was startled; the voice was both unfamiliar and familiar. He thought for a moment—wasn't that Lex Luthor?!
Wait a minute! Victor suddenly stood up. The Luther Corporation has factories; they practically monopolize the energy industry in Metropolis. He can definitely get enough thermal energy from them!
“Listen, Luther, I don’t have time to waste with you,” Victor said. “I need a lot of thermal energy to activate the Mother Box and resurrect Hal. Where is your energy center?!”
"Energy center? There's nothing useful there. Follow my coordinates now. There's a Luther Group undersea thermal pipeline there, and it outputs enough energy for your needs."
Victor hoisted Hal onto his shoulder and flew towards the coordinates. On the way, he asked Luther, "Have you been spying on us?"
"How is this possible? I just cleaned up the mess from before, and I wanted to see what you guys were up to, but I found that you've made an even bigger mess! What's with all these monsters?!"
“I don’t know either, but that’s not the issue right now.” Victor judged the direction and found that this was the location, so he took Hal and sank to the bottom of the sea, where they indeed found the underwater thermal energy pipe that Luther had mentioned.
"How do I do it? How do I obtain the heat energy from this?"
"Of course, we'll do what you vandals do best—cut it off."
Without hesitation, Victor roared and unleashed laser beams from his eyes, slicing through the massive functional pipe. A surge of heat spread out, instantly boiling the surrounding seawater. Victor didn't dodge; instead, he carried Hal forward to meet the attack. The intense heat instantly burned away most of his skin.
Victor let out a bloodcurdling scream, and then his muscles dissolved, exposing his bones. He was almost burned to a skeleton. However, the Mother Box, under this powerful heat, emitted an increasingly intense light, which not only saved Victor but also, just as it had resurrected Victor, directly resurrected Hal.
The moment Hal awoke, he felt an overwhelming heat. He instinctively activated the Green Lantern energy, thankfully Victor had already filled his ring. The next second, the Green Lantern energy pulled the two of them to the surface.
Victor's injuries have not been fully healed. The remaining half of his body has had its skin and flesh peeled off, exposing most of his ribs, and you can even vaguely see his beating heart.
Hal's eyes instantly turned red, not from sadness, but from rage. Damn Steppenwolf!!!
Fortunately, the Mother Box continued to repair Victor's body. Hal had discovered that this seemed to have forged a deeper connection between Victor and the Mother Box. But he didn't have time to worry about that right now; he couldn't even avenge Victor, because he had to protect Victor.
Steppenwolf didn't give up; even surrounded by several Green Lanterns, he kept charging towards them. If Hal rushed in to fight him, Steppenwolf might seize an opening and grab Victor again. So the best course of action now was to leave with Victor.
Hal enveloped them both in Green Lantern energy and flew towards the city. He needed to find a safe place to drop Victor off. And trusting Wayne, his first thought was naturally the Justice League's base.
When he landed in the center of the base's courtyard and saw Schiller on his left and Doomsday on his right, the sky seemed to fall.
Doomsday has re-evolved into a normal size, much smaller than before, only slightly larger than a normal human. He's currently sharing a giant donut with the police. Schiller is making them coffee.
Hal couldn't help but close his eyes. He must be dreaming! Otherwise, how could he see a group of people sitting in the Justice League's base drinking coffee and eating donuts? More importantly, why the hell were those donuts so huge?!
If it wasn't a dream, then I must have taken too many drugs; if it wasn't drugs, then I must have eaten poisonous mushrooms. This all seems too illogical.
Unexpectedly, the protagonist of his dream actually came up to him and started talking. Schiller looked them up and down, then said, "Are you alright?"
Hal's current feeling was, "I really don't have time to mess around with you guys." He walked straight past Schiller, headed to the base's basement, carried Victor to the lab table, and Victor should recover soon.
Hal flew off again. Today, he would surely kill Steppenwolf!
Watching Hal's retreating figure, Schiller took out his phone and said, "It's the last raid, aren't you coming?"
A deep voice came from the other end of the phone: "Coming right away."
Hal, upon returning to the beach, didn't rush to wake the others, because he knew his previous strategy was wrong—he shouldn't have attacked Steppenwolf first, but rather repelled Parallax first, so that everyone wouldn't be affected by mental interference, and then they could deal with Steppenwolf together.
As for how to defeat Parallax, Hal didn't need to think too much. After Victor's transformation, the green light energy in his ring was now off the charts. He went straight for Parallax like a green bullet, crashing headfirst into its head.
Parallax let out a cry of pain and immediately stretched out its tentacles to grab Hal. But Hal was agile, kicking with its left foot and punching with its right, forcing Parallax to retreat step by step.
Steppenwolf clearly realized something was wrong. If Hal managed to defeat Parallax so easily, once the Justice League woke up, while they might not be able to defeat him, it would definitely buy them a lot of time. What he feared wasn't the Justice League, but the deadline set by Darkseid.
So he gritted his teeth, stomped his foot, and headbutted the Green Lantern Squad leader who was rushing towards him, sending him flying into the air with a whoosh.
This time, Hal has learned his lesson. More importantly, Steppenwolf is panicking; that previous wave of Fear Disruption wasn't wasted. In his desperate attempt to stop Hal, Steppenwolf has lost his mind, focusing solely on chasing Hal, only to be outmaneuvered and repeatedly attacked by Parallax.
Although he didn't restrain Parallax, his brute strength was enough to hurt anyone. Parallax howled as he was beaten, constantly retracting its tentacles in an attempt to escape.
Hal saw his chance and spurred Parallax out of the Earth's atmosphere. The other Green Lanterns also found this to be effective, so they surrounded Parallax and released their Green Lantern energy, dragging him out of the atmosphere.
"It's up to you!" Hal shouted.
He sped back towards Earth, intending to wake the others. Steppenwolf could only follow him, knowing he couldn't let Hal awaken the other Justice League members.
The two exchanged blows in mid-air, their movements completely disorganized, a mere struggle of pulling at each other, neither wanting the other to return.
By this stage of the fight, both sides were exhausted. Although Hal had energy to protect him, he was still badly beaten up in hand-to-hand combat with such a large creature. Although Steppenwolf was a skilled fighter, he had been fighting for several days and was also running out of energy.
But it was precisely at this last moment that no one was willing to let up. They all felt that as long as they persevered, they would definitely be able to defeat the other. Therefore, they were exceptionally fierce and no longer held back, and the battle entered the final sprint stage.
Hal was the first to reach the beach. He roared, and the green light energy instantly spread out, clearing away the remaining yellow light energy, and everyone woke up.
They were awake, but the experience had clearly caused them considerable psychological trauma. Everyone was pale and unsteady on their feet. However, the sight of the Steppenwolf's ferocious face immediately snapped them awake.
Arthur grabbed the golden trident, Diana picked up her sword and shield again, Ron took a deep breath, and fired a laser beam, sounding the horn for the final battle.
All the heroes swarmed forward, attacking Steppenwolf. Steppenwolf was not to be outdone. After blocking the laser with his arms, he punched Wonder Woman away, kicked away Martian Manhunter who was closing in on him, dodged the incoming green light energy, and quickly rose into the air to avoid the suddenly rising sea level.
Ron tried the same trick again, ramming his head into Steppenwolf. But this time, Steppenwolf was prepared and pretended not to notice. However, the moment Ron left his ethereal state, Steppenwolf slashed at his chest with a claw.
"Well!!!!"
A large, blood-red hole appeared in Ron's chest. Ron gritted his teeth and re-entered his ethereal state, then retreated, catching his breath several times. Diana slashed at Steppenwolf's arm; Steppenwolf couldn't stop in time, but the Vulcan sword only left a shallow gash on his arm.
However, Hal seized the opportunity, his blade formed from green light energy swiftly slicing through the air, working with Arthur to block their retreat. Steppenwolf's left arm snapped off, blood splattering across the beach.
