Chapter 84 The Rooster Crows Alone, Student Murdered
Picking up where we left off, after hearing Harry's words, Snape was instantly filled with an inexplicable rage.
He gripped his wand tightly, his knuckles turning white, and several times he couldn't resist the urge to cast the Killing Curse.
He stared intently into Harry's green eyes for a long moment before barely managing to suppress his rage, squeezing out a few words with a ferocious expression, "What are you... talking nonsense about?!"
When Harry saw Snape fly into a rage, just like the day he had exposed him, he knew he had guessed right again.
As the saying goes, once the knot is untied, everything falls into place. Harry's confusion dissipated, and he felt as if all his joints were now connected.
He quickly sheathed his knife, grabbed Snape's hands, and sighed deeply, "The professor is a man of hardship too."
Snape yanked his hand away, yelling, "Shut up! Don't let your filthy thoughts disgust me!"
Harry saw that Snape was like a firecracker, ready to explode at the slightest provocation, and he knew perfectly well that the guy was possessed by a demon and was suffering from a deep-seated obsession.
He thought to himself: Malfoy only holds the title; in reality, he's like a walking corpse, his bones and tendons ripped out.
Snape, however, opened people's eyes. A group of thugs took turns humiliating him. Even an iron Vajra or a stone Arhat might not be able to withstand it.
He never hanged himself from a tree in the southeast, nor did he bang his head against a wall. He simply endured hardship in the world, which is enough to make him a true hero with an iron will.
Thinking of this, Harry couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration. He bowed and said, "Professor, you are truly a hero. I am ashamed of my inferiority! Please forgive my previous rash words."
If it were just the latter part of the sentence, Snape would have readily accepted it. But Harry went on to say something about feeling ashamed of himself, wasn't that implying the fabricated affair?
Snape's face contorted with rage, his teeth grinding together. "Are you deaf?! I told you to stop spouting this utterly baseless nonsense!"
"Why should the professor hide anything? I am certainly not the kind of person to let slip."
"I didn't hide anything at all!" Snape roared angrily. "You know everything just because you peeked into my memory for two or three seconds?!"
"Let me tell you what happened, Mr. Potter! It was just a joke my friend was playing on me!"
Snape's roar shook the rafters, his arrogance reaching the heavens, and he was truly righteous in his conviction. Harry remained unmoved, but his mind was sharp enough to discern the truth in his words.
"Professor, you might as well be fooling Harry with these words, but don't fool yourself as well."
"If it was just a joke and he just took off his hakama, why was the professor sprawled on the floor? And why was his undershirt so disheveled?"
Snape opened his mouth, about to say a few polite words to brush it off. But before he could speak, Harry said, "I heard that damn 'Don't touch me' thing very clearly too!"
Upon hearing this, Snape felt as if a lump of charcoal was stuck in his throat, or as if a flat knife was cutting his tongue. He opened his mouth wide, but could not utter a single word.
Seeing that he remained silent, Harry shook his head and sighed, "If I'm not mistaken, this must be the reason why the professor has such a taste."
Snape, in the prime of his life, suffered such a terrible misfortune; how could his temperament not be twisted? Have you not heard the saying: "Living long in a fish market, one becomes accustomed to the stench"?
After a while, a strange feeling began to stir within him, and he couldn't resist seeking out others to engage in this activity. This cycle repeated itself until he became addicted.
Harry's words were like a thorn-poisoned caltrop, piercing Snape's heart. The pain was excruciating, making him feel dizzy and wanting to immediately unleash three hundred Killing Curses on Harry to vent his anger.
He was about to rant about this utter nonsense, but then he remembered how he had been hit by James Potter's Upside-Down Curse, hanging upside down with his crotch facing the sky. How could he possibly utter such a humiliating thing?
He and Harry stared at each other, but neither of them uttered a sound.
Harry, being an upright and honest man, cupped his hands in a gesture of respect and said, "If I am wrong, Professor, please feel free to refute me!"
"Shut your mouth! You haven't said a single word that's right!"
Just then, a rooster crowed through the crack in the door, its sound piercing the eardrums and making one's heart tremble.
Dear readers, you should know that Snape had been simmering with rage, his anger burning fiercely within him. However, he couldn't vent it on Harry, fearing it would give rise to gossip and solidify the unfounded accusation of homosexuality.
Hearing the rooster's deathly crow, he knew that another student was using the snake-summoning spell to cause trouble, and all his anger found an outlet.
"These idiots! Do they think the basilisk is some kind of pet?!"
Snape waved his wand, blasting open the door, and angrily charged towards the source of the crowing rooster.
As soon as the gate opened, the rooster's crow grew even louder, like a sharp blade scraping an iron pot, echoing alone in the empty corridor, making the walls buzz and reverberating for miles around.
Harry heard the rooster crow clearly, his brow furrowed suddenly, he tucked his sleeves into his arm guards, drew his sword and cane, and shot out the door like an arrow.
Before leaving, he flicked his wrist, and a spell burst forth from the tip of his staff, shooting straight towards the underground classroom where Draco was.
When Snape saw Harry charging out so fully armed and menacing, his heart sank. He turned around and walked away with his back to Harry.
"What did you hear, Potter?"
"Is that Parsleyan dialect?"
Harry moved with lightning speed, replying, "Although I haven't heard a snake hiss, the rooster's crowing sounds strange; there must be something fishy going on."
"A rooster crows?" Snape frowned. "What's wrong?"
"These magical roosters lie down every three to five steps, or even more than ten steps, and the whole castle is full of eyes and ears."
"If some bird-man really did chant the snake-summoning spell, he would surely flee after casting the spell. How could the serpent, roaming everywhere, only attract the crowing of a magical rooster?"
Harry gave him a slight hint, which made Snape's face turn ashen. He quickly raised his wand and shouted, "Patriot!"
A blinding silver light shot out from the tip of the staff, transforming into a doe and heading straight for the ground.
The two men walked a few more steps, their backs touching. The rooster's crowing grew increasingly piercing and close. Snape suddenly twisted his body, grabbed Harry's shoulder blade with his five fingers, and flung him backward.
The two reversed positions, instantly changing their orientation. Snape stepped forward to meet the enemy, while Harry held the rear.
"Keep an eye on what's behind you, Potter. I've already sent someone to find Dumbledore—"
"brother!"
Before Snape could finish speaking, Harry had already pounced forward like a tiger released from its cage.
Colin, holding a camera, stood frozen in place, looking like a wooden or clay sculpture.
Harry, witnessing the chilling sight, nearly crushed the hilt of his knife. Snape, however, remained silent, his eyes fixed intently on Snape's wrist.
"Potter".
"What does it mean that your arm guards are glowing?"
There's a secret society, classrooms are locked up, and foul talk takes place; a rooster crows suddenly, unlike the usual student noise. The Colin brothers have been brutally murdered, and Harry's rage burns fiercely. He wants to find the Basilisk to fight to the death, Snape shouts, demanding to know about the arm guards. To find out what happens next, stay tuned for the next installment.
