Chapter 55 Burial
Chapter 55 Burial
"Hehehe, you think I have ulterior motives, don't you?"
Isa smiled and straightened up, her fingers twirling a strand of chestnut hair around her neck. Her eyes sparkled. "Don't worry, little brother Lynn, I am a court mage from the Southern Kingdoms. I am on my way to Endai to investigate the Demon King's city. I will not harm you."
"Let's go together, it's no big deal!"
Cromwell glanced at Lynn and interjected, "Besides, with me here, what could possibly go wrong?"
Looking at the confident old man, Lynn felt a little helpless and had no choice but to compromise, saying, "Since the old man has spoken, let's go together."
"It's a pleasure doing business with you, little brother."
Isabella smiled and leaned closer, taking Lynn by surprise, and gave him a hard pat on the head.
Lynn rolled her eyes, shrank back, and looked resistant.
……
After breakfast, the four hired a larger carriage and continued their journey north.
The further north you go, the more rugged the terrain becomes, and the colder the air gets.
"The Takra Maze is just ahead."
The coachman shouted a reminder from outside.
"The Takra Maze?"
Laofen poked her head out to look around, clearly having never heard of this place before.
Isa leaned back on the cushions, her long legs crossed. "That's one of the great labyrinths that hasn't been conquered yet. We're going to Ende, and going through the Taklamakan labyrinth is the fastest way."
"An unexplored dungeon?"
Lynn frowned. "That sounds very risky."
"The level of danger is not high; in fact, it's quite strange."
Isabella smiled mysteriously.
When the carriage stopped at the entrance to the ruins, Lynn finally understood what the word "wonderful" meant.
Among the broken walls and ruins, mushrooms emitting a pinkish glow grew in abundance, occasionally spewing out rings of green smoke like jellyfish.
"The magic here is in a terrible state of chaos."
Laofen gripped her staff tightly.
"Let's go, the maze entrance is just ahead. I have a map with me, so I know how to avoid the traps and mechanisms."
Isa jumped off the carriage first, her robes fluttering in the wind.
As the four entered the cave, a damp atmosphere hit them.
Not long after they walked, a round, plump creature appeared ahead of them in the passage.
It was a huge lump of slime, but it wasn't translucent; instead, it had an eerie deep purple color.
The most cringe-worthy thing is that this slime actually has an extremely realistic human face, and looks like a melancholy middle-aged man.
"What kind of hellish thing is this?"
Lynn's eye twitched violently.
Uncle Slime wriggled his body and stopped in front of the four of them, revealing a seemingly poisonous smile.
Cromwell couldn't stand it any longer, so he gripped the metal spiked club with both hands and smashed it down.
boom!
Uncle Slime was instantly smashed into a puddle of purple goo.
The puddle of goo was still twitching on the ground, and the human face, surprisingly, hadn't rotted away; instead, it let out a faint sigh.
"Ah, the rudeness of this world..."
"It can talk?"
Lynn was somewhat surprised.
"This kind of slime can read the memories of humans it has eaten, and thus imitate human language."
After explaining, Isa strode forward, "Let's go, keep moving forward, and remember not to touch any of those glowing things, especially the mushrooms."
The team continued deeper into the area.
Soon, the path forked ahead.
"Which way?" Lynn asked.
Isa stopped and took out a yellowed parchment map from inside her mage robe, carefully examining it by the light of the glowing moss on the wall.
She quickly put away the map and pointed to the road on the left: "Go left."
After walking to the left for about ten minutes, the surrounding temperature suddenly rose.
After turning a corner, the view suddenly opened up.
This was a huge underground cavern with a churning river of lava below. The dark red firelight made the four people's faces glow red, and the heat wave, accompanied by a dry wind, roared up from below.
Connecting the two banks is a stone bridge, which, perhaps due to years of erosion from the heat, is now so narrow that only one person can pass at a time.
"It's so hot..."
Laofen was already sweating.
"Cross this bridge and you'll reach the core area of the maze."
Isa became serious. "Everyone, be on your guard."
Cromwell, carrying his spiked club, spat at the lava below the bridge.
Lynn gazed silently at the stone bridge, which was slightly distorted by the heatwave, and a strong sense of unease rose from the bottom of her heart.
"Let's go."
Isa was the first to step onto the stone bridge.
The bridge is very narrow, only wide enough for one person to walk on at a time.
Lynn had Laoffen and Cromwell walk in the middle, while he brought up the rear, keeping a watchful eye on his surroundings.
The moment I stepped onto the solid ground on the other side, an unexpected event occurred!
A black shadow, moving at incredible speed, shot out from the shadows without warning!
The target is clear: Isha, who is at the forefront!
"Watch out!"
Isha reacted extremely quickly, almost instinctively raising her staff to block.
However, the dark figure suddenly veered and instantly appeared in the middle of the group!
Laofen felt a cold touch on her neck, and then she was held in place by an irresistible force.
By the time Lynn and Isa reacted, a tall, slender demon shrouded in black armor was already standing in the middle of the bridge, holding Raofen by the throat with one hand, suspending her over the edge of the bridge.
"High-speed movement magic?"
Isa looked at the demon with a grave expression. "This is troublesome."
The demon glanced at the crowd with interest. "Humans, put down your weapons, or this cute little girl will have to take a lava bath."
"You bastard! Arresting someone right in front of me? You're asking for trouble!"
Cromwell, his face contorted with rage, swung his massive metal mace, ready to charge.
"Don't move!"
The demon's fingers tightened slightly, and Raofen winced in pain, letting out a muffled groan.
"Believe me, you can't keep up with my speed. If you dare to make any rash moves, I'll let you go."
Upon hearing this, Cromwell abruptly stopped in his tracks, his face turning red with anger.
"Drop all your weapons!"
"The demons threatened."
The old man and Isa exchanged a glance and reluctantly put down their weapons.
"And you? Quickly throw your sword into the lava, or else..."
The demon stared at Lynn, lightly tracing a faint line of blood across Raofen's cheek with his fingernail. "Your companion will be killed."
Lynn squinted, his gaze passing through the distorted air and landing on the center of the bridge ten meters away.
ten meters.
With his current explosive power, he can shorten this distance in just half a second.
But that half-second was enough for the demon to kill Raofen.
After a long pause, Lynn slowly spoke:
"I refuse."
Upon hearing this, Cromwell paused, looking astonished.
Isa raised an eyebrow, but didn't say anything to persuade her. She just looked at Lynn's profile with interest.
The demons on the bridge were clearly taken aback by this turn of events, and couldn't help but show a confused expression, saying:
"I've used this trick on countless human adventurers, and without exception, they all obediently dropped their weapons. Why would you refuse?"
Lynn waved for the old man and Isa to go first, then stepped onto the stone bridge and said, "I don't like being threatened. Since you want to kill her, then we'll both die here with you!"
After saying that, he drew his longsword and slashed it fiercely at the stone bridge beneath his feet!
