Chapter 119 Tonics
Chapter 119 Tonics
Seeing Lin Feng's shocked and speechless expression, Su Wan immediately realized he had misunderstood and quickly waved her hand to explain:
"Oh dear! Honey, what are you thinking! Don't worry, we don't mean...we mean that!"
"We were thinking of having you tell stories to the baby."
"Everyone says prenatal education is very important. If you read a story once, both babies can hear it. Isn't that convenient and efficient?"
Lin Feng turned his gaze to Xia Ning, who immediately nodded vigorously and added:
"Experts say that fathers communicating more with their babies helps cultivate their cheerful personalities."
Lin Feng was taken aback upon hearing this, then chuckled, rubbing his forehead.
"Oh, it's just a story... Okay... Since it's for the baby, then... let's try it tonight."
........................
Around 10 p.m.
Three people were lying on the king-size bed in the master bedroom. Although it still didn't feel crowded, the atmosphere was completely different.
Lin Feng changed into his pajamas and lay stiffly in the middle.
To his right was Xia Ning, lying on her side with a rounded belly. She had adjusted to the most comfortable position, with a soft pillow under her waist.
To his left, Su Wan was also lying on her side, facing him. Although her lower abdomen was not yet obvious, her posture showed the cautiousness that is unique to pregnant women.
The soft light from the bedside lamp cast a warm glow, enveloping the three figures together.
Lin Feng held a beautifully bound collection of fairy tales in his hands. He cleared his throat and began to read aloud in as steady and gentle a tone as possible:
"Once upon a time, in a quiet, large forest, lived a kind little bear and a clever little rabbit..."
To Lin Feng's surprise, the two ladies beside him were unusually well-behaved and quiet tonight.
Xia Ning closed her eyes, her long eyelashes casting a faint shadow under her eyelids, and a serene smile played on her lips.
Su Wan lay quietly, one hand gently resting on her lower abdomen, her gaze softly fixed on Lin Feng's profile as he read, listening intently.
Lin Feng's initial nervousness and embarrassment gradually dissipated, and a strange warmth welled up in his heart.
Seeing the two women carrying his children peacefully by his side, a strong sense of "family" and responsibility filled his chest.
He read the story of "The Little Bear and the Little Rabbit" and then "The Starry Silver Dollar," his tone becoming increasingly gentle.
About half an hour later, he felt his throat was a little dry, so he closed the book.
"Alright, that's all for today's story time. It's time for the children to rest."
Xia Ning and Su Wan almost simultaneously gave a soft "hmm".
Lin Feng reached out and turned off the bedside lamp, plunging the bedroom into darkness. Only the hazy moonlight from outside the window seeped through the curtains.
The world quieted down.
Lin Feng adjusted his position, preparing to fall asleep.
However, as soon as he relaxed, he felt movement on both sides.
Xia Ning on the right subtly adjusted her posture in the darkness, then gently placed an arm on his chest.
Almost simultaneously, Su Wan on the left also moved, extending an arm to rest on the other side of his chest with gentle, tentative movements. Seeing that he did not react, she relaxed and put her arm down.
The two ladies, one on the left and one on the right, seemed to be using him as a huge and reliable human-shaped pillow. Their breathing gradually became even and long, and they had obviously fallen asleep.
Lin Feng: "..."
My chest bears two tender weights, and my nose is surrounded by two different fragrances.
And he was at the prime of his life, full of youthful vigor...
This...this is simply sweet torture!
He felt his nerves becoming increasingly tense, and his consciousness becoming increasingly clear—
You two are asleep, but poor me... how am I going to get through this long night!
........................
The next morning, Team Leader Qin sent over the prescription written by the TCM experts after their consultation.
Lin Che printed out the prescription and handed it to the butler, Lai Fu.
"Ahem..." He coughed lightly, his ears turning slightly red. "This is a nourishing recipe. Prepare all the medicinal herbs according to the instructions and brew it."
Laifu took the prescription with both hands, and the electronic eye quickly scanned the contents of the paper.
The prescription details the names and precise weights of more than a dozen medicinal herbs.
"Understood, Master."
He turned and left.
About an hour later, Laifu returned with a bag of Chinese medicine, then went straight into the kitchen and began to brew the medicine.
Soon, a strong medicinal smell filled the villa.
The first person to be startled by the smell was Su Wan, who was reading comics in the sunroom on the second floor.
She wrinkled her nose, put down the comic book in her hand, and looked at Xia Ning with a puzzled expression:
"Sister Ning, do you smell something strange?"
Xia Ning sniffed, her brows furrowing slightly.
She stood up, supporting her back. "Let's go see. Is Laifu researching some new cuisine? This taste... is really quite unique."
The two pregnant women followed the smell to the kitchen door, where they saw Laifu meticulously guarding an antique-style purple clay medicine pot, with an electronic eye precisely monitoring the heat and time.
"Laifu, what are you cooking? It smells so strong!" Su Wan asked curiously, pinching her nose.
Lai Fu turned around, his face still bearing that impeccable smile: "Reporting to Madam Su, I am preparing a nourishing medicinal soup for my master."
"A nourishing medicinal soup?" Xia Ning's eyes flashed.
She took a few steps closer, her gaze sweeping over the half-empty Chinese medicine packet on the counter, and some oddly shaped scraps of medicinal herbs that hadn't been cleaned up yet.
Finally, her gaze settled on a small, processed, but still discernible, dark brown, dried strip.
Xia Ning couldn't help but let the corners of her mouth curve upwards into a beautiful arc.
She extended her slender finger, pointed to the piece of medicinal herb, and asked in a teasing tone:
"Laifu, if I'm not mistaken... that, could it be... a tiger penis?"
The air in the kitchen seemed to freeze instantly.
Su Wan blinked blankly at first, then her pretty face turned bright red in an instant.
Lai Fu remained calm and bowed slightly.
"Madam Xia has a good eye. This is indeed the 'tiger shinbone' recorded in the prescription, one of the principal medicines for nourishing essence and marrow, and strengthening tendons and bones."
Just then, Lin Feng walked to the kitchen door and immediately felt two meaningful gazes.
"Husband~" Xia Ning drawled, her smile sweet, "Husband...you, you really don't need to do this...we, we agreed we'd restrain ourselves..."
Lin Feng coughed lightly: "No... don't misunderstand!"
"This is...this is Team Leader Qin's heartfelt gift!"
"It's for strengthening the body's foundation and nourishing its vital energy! It's not just that... oh dear..."
As he spoke, he took one of the two ladies by the arm and led them out of the kitchen:
"The smell of this medicine is too strong; it might upset the baby."
