Chapter 84 Frontline
Chapter 84 Frontline
Somewhere on the front lines of the battlefield, during the Iwagakure ninja raid on the Konoha camp.
Trees fell, the earth churned, and the scars of flames were everywhere.
Jiraiya leaned against a thick tree trunk, his chest heaving violently, his breathing heavy.
He had just dodged Old Purple's Lava Release fireball when his left sleeve was scorched, with black marks curling up at the edge.
His gaze pierced through the sparse trees, fixed on the two unsettling figures ahead—
Rōshi and Han, the two Jinchūriki of Iwagakure, were standing in a clearing in the forest, their bodies surrounded by visible Tailed Beast Chakra.
Even with the help of the two immortals, Fukasaku and Shima, Jiraiya still found it quite difficult to fight two opponents at once.
What unsettled him even more was that the other party had not used the Tailed Beast Ball yet, which seemed more like a delaying tactic to wear them down.
"Jiraiya," Old Purple suddenly spoke, his tone arrogant and undisguisedly mocking, "aren't you worried about the Konoha camp?"
Jiraiya's heart tightened.
Despite the constant roar of battle, he still managed to catch faint sounds of explosions coming from the rear camp.
I went after all...
His expression was solemn.
This is both a conspiracy and an open scheme.
They pinned him down on the front lines, while the main force engaged in battle there, and small elite units launched surprise attacks on the rear camp.
If we don't hold off the main force of Iwagakure at the front line, the enemy can still advance unimpeded, destroy the camp, and even endanger Tamagawa City, a major city in the northwest of the Land of Fire.
Jiraiya took a deep breath, suppressing the anxiety surging within him, and his face regained its usual bold and unrestrained expression:
"Old Zi, instead of worrying about my camp, you should worry about your own future."
"Stubborn to the end." Old Purple sneered, his red tail swaying wildly behind him. "Without the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, Konoha is no match for us. Once you show signs of fatigue, the entire ninja world will pounce on this piece of fat meat that is the Land of Fire."
Before he finished speaking, he suddenly charged forward, cracking the ground and setting the vegetation ablaze in his wake.
The Han forces silently attacked from the flank, their steam-powered armor roaring as their speed increased dramatically.
"Ninjutsu: Needle Jizo!"
Jiraiya's long white hair, which had been mostly burned, hardened and lengthened again, with the end turning into a snake's head, which opened its mouth to bite at Rōshi.
On his left shoulder, Shima Senjin's tongue shot out as well, swiftly wrapping around Han's crimson body.
If either of these two secret techniques can hold the enemy in place for even a moment, Fukasaku's Water Slash can be launched swiftly, using a high-intensity water blade to break through the defense and inflict damage.
Unfortunately, this move requires precise coordination and seizing the perfect moment.
Previously, Jiraiya had managed to entangle Roshi in Lava Release mode, but his combo was interrupted by Han's attack, and his rapid-fire water slash failed to reach his opponent.
Faced with such an offensive, Lao Zi and Han had no choice but to dodge to avoid being controlled.
The two sides engaged in a fierce battle once again.
Soon, the faint sounds of explosions from the Konoha camp gradually subsided.
Old Purple smirked, convinced that the sneak attack had succeeded and the Konoha camp had been destroyed.
He leaped onto a large, broken tree stump in a flash, looking down from above:
"Did you hear that? Your logistics base is finished."
Jiraiya's heart sank, but his face remained impassive:
"War cannot be decided by one or two sneak attacks, Old Shi. Iwagakure, as the instigator of the war, will only reap what it sows."
"Nonsense." Old Purple shook his head, his Tailed Beast chakra surging forth, his aura rising steadily.
"Time's almost up. Without that Flying Thunder God kid to save the day, where can you run to?"
He and Han simultaneously entered a deeper state of tailed beast transformation, their bodies completely enveloped in a dark red chakra cloak, their tails flailing wildly.
While both remained conscious, they simultaneously opened their mouths, conjuring two jet-black energy spheres—
Tailed Beast Ball!
The air in the forest seemed to freeze suddenly, and terrifying energy fluctuations shook the mind.
"Not good!" Jiraiya's pupils contracted sharply. "Two sages, please retreat to Mount Myōboku!"
"We'll use reverse spirit communication to take you with us!" Fukasaku the Sage decided immediately.
"Hurry up, this thing is hard to catch!" Shima the Immortal said urgently.
Please!
Bang!Bang!
The two immortals turned into white smoke and disappeared.
Almost at the same moment, two small black balls took shape and hurtled towards Jiraiya from the left and right!
The Tailed Beast Ball tore through the air, crushing trees into dust and causing the earth to churn and crack wherever it passed.
Jiraiya's forehead was beaded with sweat, his heart pounding, and he silently prayed: "Two immortals, hurry up!"
Finally, at the last moment, he felt the pull of the Reverse Spirit Spell.
Boom! ...
The destructive white light engulfed everything within a radius of two hundred meters.
The giant tree turned to ashes, the earth cracked, and soil and rocks were thrown into the sky like waves.
The blinding light was clearly visible even from tens of miles away, and the deafening, terrifying roar rolled and carried into the distance like thunder.
At the Konoha camp, everyone who was treating the wounded looked up and gazed in the direction from which the loud noise came.
Kurenai Yuhi's heart tightened, but her expression remained calm as she spoke loudly:
"I trust Lord Jiraiya. Continue treating the wounded and strengthen patrols!"
Suppressing their unease, everyone continued with their work.
But the earth-shattering explosion had cast a shadow over everyone's hearts.
Mount Myoboku is a place of tranquility and peace.
Jiraiya appeared, staggering, kneeling on one knee, breathing heavily.
My back was already soaked with cold sweat.
"Almost..." he murmured, the destructive scene of the Tailed Beast Ball rushing towards him still lingering in his mind's eye.
"Little Jiraiya," Fukasaku jumped in front of him, his face serious, "you must master Sage Mode as soon as possible. Otherwise, it might not be enough next time."
"I understand." Jiraiya wiped the sweat from his forehead and stood up.
Cultivating immortal arts is a matter for later; the current battle situation is urgent and cannot be delayed in the slightest.
"Should we go back immediately?" Fukasaku asked.
"Yes, the teams are still fighting, and the situation at the camp is unclear." Jiraiya nodded.
"Won't you eat something before you go? There's still lunch left," said Shima-sensei.
Recalling the taste of insect dishes, Jiraiya quickly refused:
"I won't eat, thank you Master Shima!"
Shima the Immortal snorted and turned to tidy up the cooking utensils.
He pondered deeply and said:
"The combined might of the Four-Tails and Five-Tails is indeed extremely difficult to deal with. What are your plans?"
"I've had Watergate harass their rear supply lines. If we can find their logistics camp, we might be able to create an opportunity for a counterattack."
Jiraiya had sharp eyes.
"Iwagakure wants to crush us with Jinchūriki, but we'll break that with Flying Thunder God Technique."
"Summon us when needed." Fukasaku nodded. "But remember, Sage Mode is the key."
"Yes."
After a brief moment of rest, Jiraiya indicated that he was ready.
The hand seals were formed, and the reverse spirit communication spell was dispelled.
A wisp of white smoke drifted by, and Jiraiya vanished without a trace.
The battlefield was completely unrecognizable.
The woodland was reduced to scorched earth, and wisps of black smoke still rise from a huge crater in the center, which is over a hundred meters in diameter.
The soil on the pit walls melted and then solidified, giving it a glassy sheen.
Jiraiya appeared above the deep pit, and suddenly his feet lost their footing, causing him to plummet downwards.
"Ninjutsu: Needle Jizo!"
Her white hair formed a ball, cushioning her fall, before she crashed heavily to the bottom of the pit, raising a cloud of dust.
After releasing himself from the pain, he coughed a few times, dispersed the dust, and quickly ran up the steep slope.
Upon reaching the edge, he crouched low and cautiously surveyed the surroundings.
Lao Zi and Han have disappeared without a trace.
The sounds of fighting could still be heard in the distance; the battle on the front lines continued.
"Have they already gone elsewhere? We can't keep them waiting..."
Jiraiya's mind raced, and just as he was about to set off, a golden light flashed past him.
"Jiraiya-sensei."
Minato Namikaze arrived in an instant, his golden hair slightly fluttering.
His azure eyes quickly swept across the surroundings, pausing for a moment at the giant crater before regaining their composure.
"Sorry, teacher, I'm late," Minato said.
"You're back just in time." Jiraiya breathed a sigh of relief and grinned. "That was pretty powerful."
"How's the investigation going?" he asked again.
Minato didn't say much, and went straight to the report:
"A logistics camp belonging to Iwagakure has been discovered within the Land of Grass, with approximately a thousand men on guard. I have already deployed Flying Thunder God Techniques along the route."
"Good!" A glint flashed in Jiraiya's eyes.
"Once we stabilize the front lines here, we'll deliver a 'big gift.' Let Iwagakure taste what it's like to have fire burning in their rear."
"Yes." Minato nodded, then looked towards the direction of the distant sounds of battle.
"Fighting is still going on over there. Should we go now?"
"Walk!"
The two figures flickered and disappeared into the remaining shadows of the trees.
The forest fell silent again, leaving only scorched earth, broken logs, and deep pits, silently witnessing this war that was not yet over.
