"The magical artifacts of the Black and White Impermanence, Ox-Head and Horse-Face in my Underworld were created by the crafts department. They are all the most outstanding craftsmen in countless years, with amazing talents, and they can certainly meet the requirements of the True Lord."
"In that case, thank you for your trouble, King Yama."
Hearing Yama say that, Bai Zhi also felt a sense of anticipation.
She now feels that the underworld in Journey to the West has been completely underestimated. This organization, which corresponds to the Heavenly Court and is responsible for matters after death, is actually a powerful entity that incorporates a great deal of human wisdom.
Even though the most outstanding figures, such as Lu Ban, were summoned to heaven and became gods, there are still countless people among the rest who can rival their wisdom and talent.
Many people are not lacking in talent, but simply lack the opportunity to use it. If they were given the opportunity, the energy they unleash might rival that of celebrities.
As the saying goes, three cobblers are equal to one Zhuge Liang. In the underworld, there are not only cobblers, but perhaps also Zhuge Liangs who have not been given important positions.
Chapter 755 Bai Zhi: Do I have a compassionate appearance?
"Your Majesty, the person has been summoned!"
A short while later, the ghostly soldier returned.
"Bring him in."
The King of Hell waved his hand.
The ghostly soldiers obeyed the order and left, then returned with a large number of people.
King Yama looked around at the group of people, then said in a deep and majestic voice, "Today, True Lord Baizhi has come here to seek the method of soul fusion forging. You must remember that it must be forged using materials from the mortal world, not materials from my underworld."
"At the same time, it needs to be able to suppress the evil spirits within the swords. Can you do that?"
"can!"
These people answered in unison.
"Good, very good. You can introduce yourselves to the True Lord first. Once the True Lord says it's time to begin, you can start performing."
King Yama nodded in satisfaction. There weren't many other gods who could ask him for favors. At most, some immortals would ask him to extend the lifespan of their descendants, but these were all relatively insignificant gods.
When someone of Bai Zhi's caliber comes to ask for favors, it's a rare opportunity to show off and demonstrate the depth of his underworld.
"My Lord, I am the fourth-generation leader of the Mohist school, also known as..."
A man dressed in pre-Qin clothing stepped forward first and spoke respectfully.
"Welcome, True Lord. This humble servant is Gan Jiang, and this is my wife, Mo Xie. We have dedicated our lives to forging swords and have considerable insight into this matter. We are confident that we can bring you good results."
Two more people leaped out.
"My Lord, I am Ou Yezi..."
The fact that so many people came out was quite an eye-opener for Bai Zhi. Although many of them were not people who could ascend to immortality or be famous for eternity, they were still prominent figures in history.
For example, Gan Jiang and Mo Xie are very famous in various novels and works.
"I admire Yama's abilities."
"Haha, True Lord, there's no need for praise. This is nothing more than the most basic thing. I just wonder, besides seeking this method of soul fusion and sword forging, is there anything else that I can help you with?"
The King of Hell chuckled. He didn't care at all when people praised him. After all, he faced so many souls every day and had been called "the Upright Judge" countless times. He was almost immune to such praise.
But Bai Zhi's praise is far more precious than the praise of ordinary people's souls.
The two are completely incomparable in status.
"Speaking of which, there is indeed something."
"Oh? May I explain in detail, True Lord?"
"Actually, it's nothing. It's just about finding a way to purify evil spirits. After all, my old friend forged so many demonic swords, and after we retrieved them, we melted them all down, which was a waste. So I'm looking for a way to purify evil spirits."
"This……"
King Yama frowned. "If you're talking about purifying evil spirits, in my underworld, if you throw them into the eighteen levels of hell, even if they harbor boundless resentment, they will eventually be purified and sent into reincarnation."
"However, if one doesn't have to go through the eighteen levels of hell, some Qi cultivators can use magic to purify it, but it depends on the cultivation level of the evil spirit. If a mortal wants to do this..."
"It's difficult, extremely difficult. I suggest you go to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. He might be able to give you some advice and solutions."
"Thank you, King Yama."
Bai Zhi was somewhat disappointed; it was indeed unlikely that everything could be handled in one go here.
“True Lord, since it will take some time for these craftsmen to figure out the method you require, we might as well take this opportunity to go to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and ask if there is a solution.”
"That's fine."
Bai Zhi nodded. Now that things had come to this point, it was imperative to meet Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
I just don't know if this Bodhisattva can really offer some practical and effective solutions.
"I will have ghost soldiers lead the way for you."
"Then I'll have to trouble you, Lord Yama."
"What's the trouble? This old Yama is just talking about it; I can do it myself."
The monkey muttered a comment out of sheer boredom.
"Hehe, just like the Great Sage said, it's no trouble at all."
Yama waved his hand, and several Yin soldiers immediately appeared. "You few, take Bai Zhi Zhenjun to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva."
"Yes!"
The Yin soldiers received the order and bowed to Bai Zhi, saying, "True Lord, please follow me."
Led by the ghostly soldiers, Bai Zhi and the monkey arrived in hell. Here, Bai Zhi saw many real depictions of hell. Compared to the various graphic images she had seen online, these were nothing.
It's fortunate that this place is full of ghost soldiers and souls; if it were a human with a physical body, they would have been driven mad in less than a day.
After passing through several levels of hell, led by the Yin soldiers, Bai Zhi finally saw a sacred site shining with golden Buddhist light standing on the edge of that level of hell.
Countless souls, some dazed and confused, others fierce and menacing, emanating a dark aura, entered that place, only to emerge as bewildered, pure souls freed from the dark aura.
"Please come in, guest."
Before she even got there, Bai Zhi heard a loud noise.
“True Lord, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva has a Di Ting (a mythical beast) by his side, whose hearing is very keen. It must have known you were coming long ago.”
Yin Bing explained to Bai Zhi.
"Oh, I see. I thought you were talking about someone else."
"You jest. Only a distinguished person like you can be called a guest by the Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva's light can also harm us, so we ghost soldiers will not go there. Please do as you please."
"Thank you all for showing us the way. These few immortal fruits are a gift to you."
Bai Zhi casually tossed a few fairy fruits resembling cherry tomatoes to the few ghost soldiers.
"Ah, thank you, True Lord!!"
Several ghost soldiers were so excited that they knelt down. This was something that lowly soldiers like them could never enjoy.
I've never even smelled it, let alone eaten it.
"Alright, you can go and report back to King Yama."
Bai Zhi didn't care, since she had a bunch of those fairy fruits anyway, and these few fruits were the cheapest kind.
After dismissing the ghost soldiers, Bai Zhi and the monkey entered the Taoist temple.
Compared to the overwhelming Buddha light, the decorations here are not luxurious, and can even be described as simple. Only in the middle is there a monk wearing a kasaya, and one's soul is constantly purified in front of this monk.
“Benefactor, you have a compassionate appearance, please sit down.”
Before Bai Zhi could speak, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva spoke first.
"A compassionate face? Me?"
Bai Zhi pointed to herself. She really didn't think she was a particularly kind person; at most, she could only say that she had a muddled personality.
Her understanding of compassion is at least at the level of sacrificing oneself to feed an eagle, like cutting off one's own flesh to light up others.
"Indeed, benefactor, you possess countless aspirations, all of which are filled with hope and praise your compassion."
“Even if the benefactor’s heart may not be so, his actions will enrich all beings and help the world.”
“You have come here on important business, and I am willing to share your burden.”
Chapter 756 Guiding Divine Power
Even Bai Zhi, the Bodhisattva of the Ksitigarbha, was a little stunned.
Before I could even say anything, the other person said that.
"Is what the Bodhisattva said true?"
"Hehe, you sometimes overthink things. Not every act of help requires a price or conditions."
Seemingly sensing Bai Zhi's confusion, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva kindly offered an explanation.
Bai Zhi gave an awkward smile.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva chanted a Buddhist mantra, "If I were to ask for a condition, it would be that you continue to walk on this bountiful path and bring blessings to all beings. This would be a meritorious act on my part."
"That... is not a problem."
Bai Zhi scratched her head and agreed anyway. She had no interest in killing or setting fires for no reason. If she encountered someone who needed help, she wouldn't mind lending a hand as long as it didn't cost her anything.
At least this senior monk was a nice person and didn't force me to do anything.
"That's good."
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva smiled compassionately and said, "Then please tell me why you have come here."
"If this humble monk can help, he will certainly not hesitate to do so."
"It's not a difficult thing. I just hope to find a way that ordinary people can use to purify the evil thoughts of evil spirits and prevent them from using the swords they possess to control their owners."
Bai Zhi briefly explained her needs.
"Purify the evil thoughts of evil spirits..."
After hearing this, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva looked enlightened and said, "No wonder you came here, young friend."
“The Bodhisattva’s reputation for purifying these evil souls in hell is well-known, and that’s why I came here.”
Bai Zhi said with great respect that although Buddhism is often portrayed as a villain in many works, here, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva purifies the souls of these evil people and allows them to be reincarnated, which is undoubtedly very admirable.
"I dare not accept such praise. It is merely out of compassion. The reason why a Buddha is a Buddha is that he practices his own path."
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva paused for a moment, then changed the subject back to the main point, “Young friend, if you wish for mortals to purify evil spirits, you can have them sincerely recite my scriptures. This will allow them to communicate with my Buddha power, suppress and purify the evil spirits, and ultimately send them to their next rebirth.”
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva stretched out his hand, and a golden scripture appeared in his hand.
"This……"
Bai Zhi frowned. Ksitigarbha's method should be effective.
However, this effect is only effective in this world, because reciting scriptures and being sensed by the gods and having their power descended is a very common technique in this world.
In the Star Iron World, there is no Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, so chanting sutras is useless except for wasting saliva.
"Young friend, is there something troubling you?"
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva keenly noticed the change in Bai Zhi's expression.
"Um……"
Bai Zhi carefully considered her words before saying, "Bodhisattva, what if your Buddhist power cannot reach that place?"
"My Buddhist power cannot reach that place? Is it some kind of three thousand worlds, large or small?"
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva gave this conclusion almost instantly.
"You can think of it that way too."
Bai Zhi certainly knew about the three thousand worlds, which was actually similar to the theory of parallel universes. In this world, whether it was Buddhism or Taoism, they all believed that there were three thousand great worlds, and beyond that world there were infinite worlds.
The world is as numerous as the sands of the Ganges.
"No wonder... even with your abilities, young friend, you would come to this humble monk to inquire about this method."
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva suddenly realized that he could naturally see Bai Zhi's strength, so he was actually somewhat puzzled when Bai Zhi asked about this matter.
