Chapter 31 Who says beggars have no money?
The man with the triangular eyes and the skinny guy were already stunned by the sight of the scarred face's death, and their crotches were wet and hot.
When Russell's gaze swept over them, they both began to tremble uncontrollably.
The skinny monkey was the most timid. Just as he was about to speak, the man with the triangular eyes kowtowed before him, shouting indistinctly, "Beggar Clan! We are from the Beggar Clan!"
The Beggars' Sect? Russell frowned. "Trying to fool me?"
Judging from their clothes, they don't look like beggars at all.
Sensing the sudden chill emanating from Russell, the man with the triangular eyes hurriedly explained, "It's true! It's true! Young hero, you're right! It really is the Beggars' Clan! We're a business-oriented group! We dress like this for convenience!"
Upon hearing this, Russell stopped faking his smile and became serious: "Tell me in detail, what kind of deal is it?"
"Buying and selling...buying and selling is..." He stammered, his triangular eyes darting around, as if he still had reservations.
Russell's eyes turned cold, and he kicked the skinny monkey in the head.
"Bang!"
The man with the triangular eyes tilted his head sharply to one side as if a watermelon had been hit by a hammer, his neck bones cracking with a crisp sound, and he fell silent instantly.
Russell didn't even glance at the corpse, turning his gaze to the only remaining skinny monkey: "You tell me."
With his two brothers dead beside him, and now being targeted by this ruthless figure, Skinny Monkey felt a chill run from his tailbone to the top of his head. His crotch felt both cold and hot, and he cried out with snot and tears, "I'll talk! I'll tell you everything! Please, young hero, don't kill me!"
"The business is all about pretty girls and kids! We find a way to get them, transport them to the branch headquarters, and hand them over to the branch leader! That's really all I know!"
According to Skinny Monkey's confession, they started doing this kind of business the day they joined the Beggars' Sect.
Many foreign merchants travel to and from this city, including some who need to buy slaves. The leaders have secret contacts and sell good-looking young men and women, especially children, at high prices to the Western Regions or the Song Dynasty. Some women are sold to shady brothels or private brothels in the interior, or even to wealthy families as slaves.
Human trafficking.
Russell listened quietly, the moonlight falling on him and casting a long shadow in the alley.
His facial expression remained unchanged, except that his eyes narrowed slightly.
He said, "No wonder these three guys were so skilled—tracking, scouting, using smoke to distract, and coordinating the attack..."
It turns out they had been trained through a complete process.
Trafficking in women and children, and even men, has formed a filthy industrial chain.
Okay, very good!
"Where's the branch headquarters?" Russell continued to ask. Skinny Monkey shivered inexplicably. Without hesitation, he hurriedly replied, "In the west of the city! It's the big house at the very end of Pear Blossom Lane in the west of the city!"
Russell said no more, pressed the pressure points on the skinny monkey, rendering him unable to move or make a sound, then turned around and returned to the Sun family's courtyard in a few leaps.
Inside the courtyard and at the doorway, Mu Wanqing stood sideways, holding a short sword, her body tense, like a female leopard poised to pounce.
Hearing the commotion outside the courtyard, she immediately turned around alertly. Seeing it was Russell, her gaze softened slightly, and she stepped forward with concern, asking, "Is everything resolved?"
Russell nodded: "It's resolved, but I'll have to trouble you to stay here and keep watch for a while longer."
Mu Wanqing frowned slightly: "What's wrong?"
She had spent quite a bit of time with Russell, so how could she not sense the murderous intent emanating from him that hadn't been completely concealed? It was obvious that something had happened again.
Russell then briefly recounted the thin monkey's testimony.
Mu Wanqing was instantly enraged and said, "The Beggars' Clan actually engages in such despicable acts! These scumbags deserve to die."
Her chest heaved slightly, clearly furious. She took a deep breath, suppressing her surging anger, and looked at Russell: "What do you plan to do?"
A cold glint flashed in Russell's eyes as he said, "Since we're already here, we should naturally make a trip to the Beggars' Sect branch."
Although Mu Wanqing was strong-willed, she was not ignorant of the bigger picture. She knew that this trip was dangerous and that if she went with them, she would not only be of no help but would probably become a burden to Russell.
She bit her lip and could only say, "Be careful, I'll wait for you to come back."
"Don't worry, they're just a bunch of beggars." Russell replied, then turned back, grabbed the skinny monkey by the back of the neck, and used the monkey to point the way. He then used his lightness skill to leap away in the direction the monkey indicated.
The night wind whistled past his ears, and the skinny monkey felt the scenery on both sides rushing past him, so he closed his eyes tightly in fright.
Before long, the two arrived at Pear Blossom Lane in the west of the city.
The alley was deep, and at its end stood a magnificent mansion. High walls, green tiles, and vermilion gates; pavilions and terraces were faintly visible inside, brightly lit; two imposing stone lions stood before the gate, and lanterns hanging under the eaves illuminated the area.
Looking at the courtyard before him, Russell couldn't help but let out a sneer.
With such extravagance, you'd think you'd stumbled upon a royal palace. Who knew this was just a branch of the Beggars' Sect?
"Young...Young hero...I have brought you here. Everything I have said is true, and there is absolutely no falsehood! Could you please be merciful and let me go?" The skinny monkey, who was being held by the back of his neck and suspended in mid-air, spoke tremblingly, a flash of malice in his eyes.
Russell couldn't possibly hide this little scheme from him, but he didn't care: "I'll let you go now. Go knock on the door."
The skinny monkey thanked him obsequiously, but the smile on his face froze completely the next moment.
Russell's smile vanished instantly. He planted his right foot on the ground, twisted his body slightly to the right and back, and used his waist and abdomen to slam the skinny monkey towards the door like a shot put.
With a loud bang, the bolt broke, the door panel exploded inward, splintering wood and filling the air with dust!
The loud noise was like thunder in the quiet night, instantly attracting the attention of the Beggars' Sect disciples. A series of angry shouts immediately came from inside the courtyard.
"Who's there!?"
"Enemy attack! Someone has broken into the camp!"
"Grab your weapons!"
Lights quickly illuminated the previously dim courtyard, and shadowy figures moved about.
Many martial artists wielding sticks poured out of the courtyard.
Russell made no attempt to conceal his presence. He stood openly with his hands behind his back at the gate of the courtyard, which had been smashed open, surrounded by more than twenty disciples, their staffs pointing menacingly at him.
Someone rushed forward to check on the skinny monkey who had been thrown into the yard, their expression changing drastically: "Hou San, it's you! Where are Scarface Liu and Fatty Zhu?"
"They were all killed by this man!" the skinny monkey cried out viciously, pointing at Russell.
Russell remained expressionless. Since he recognized the man, it meant he hadn't deliberately led him to the wrong place. But just to be on the safe side, he still asked one more question to avoid wrongly accusing someone: "This guy said that your Beggars' Sect buys and sells people here. Is that true or not?"
