Chapter 31 Liu Runyu
Chapter 31 Liu Runyu
"Thump!" The gate to Zone 3 closed again, leaving only two somewhat bewildered figures in the empty hall.
"Where...where is Liu Runyu?!" Old Zeng asked in astonishment, standing there blankly, looking around for that simple-minded figure.
Su Zixu felt a wave of dizziness. He had so much to say, but he couldn't utter a single word.
............
The time came when Lao Zeng entered the basement level.
Watching Old Zeng's figure slowly disappear into the darkness, Su Zixu then closed the door.
He didn't rush to the eleventh floor, but instead adjusted the time slightly forward until Quaid appeared in the elevator.
Quaid was wearing a gas mask at this point, clearly indicating that he had just entered Sector Three.
Su Zixu discovered that this fat man really liked to mutter to himself.
Thanks to this, Su Zixu learned that Quaid entered District 3 to deal with the leaked mold, which Quaid called "Little Temper".
He went to the basement because there was a machine there called the "Hourglass," which was the key to solving the mold leak.
Combined with his previous observations of Liu Runyu and his group in the hall, Su Zixu felt that he had roughly figured out the cause of the mold leak.
He guessed that it might not be because Liu Runyu opened the door to Zone 3, but rather because Peter triggered a change in the machine on the basement level when he ran towards Liu Runyu.
That's right, it's running.
Edwin also mentioned that their jobs were cushy, requiring only sitting, so Quaid must have his reasons for making such a request.
While Su Zixu was pondering, he had already followed Quaid to the eleventh floor.
The elevator doors slowly opened, and there was nothing to be seen; it was pitch black.
Quaid, cursing, pulled a flashlight from his pocket, turned it on, and waddled out with his obese body.
Having nothing to provide light, Su Zixu had no choice but to keep his body low and follow Quaid closely.
Su Zixu was a bold man, but even he was startled and broke out in a cold sweat.
As soon as he stepped out of the elevator, he immediately felt the crowd, followed by a bone-chilling cold that assaulted him from all directions, seeping through his clothes and sticking to his skin.
Something was about to stick to him; there was a huge number of them, and they were staring at him without any restraint. There was more than one of them.
"Hurry up and go."
With only one thought in his mind, Su Zixu quickly retreated back into the elevator and immediately pressed the button for the second floor.
He stared into the darkness before him, but nothing rushed out as he had expected.
But this stillness alone was enough to make his hair stand on end.
Su Zixu suddenly realized that when using the watch face, one must not touch anything; this was a taboo, and he dared not think any further about the consequences of violating this taboo.
As the elevator doors slowly closed, he adjusted the dial to Liu Runyu's timeline.
After reviewing Liu Runyu's timeline, Su Zixu stared at the ceiling of the seventh floor, the place where Liu Runyu was last seen.
Su Zixu sighed, having never found him again. He was now certain that Liu Runyu was indeed dead, killed in the ventilation duct.
Without lingering, Su Zixu returned to the elevator, reset the time on the dial, and pressed the button for the tenth floor.
Ten floors.
There was only one large room outside the elevator, brightly lit, and with far less mold than downstairs.
The room was filled with tall bookshelves, with foreign language slogans on the sides.
Su Zixu's foreign language skills weren't very good, but he could roughly understand that these were classifications of different archives.
Su Zixu first carefully walked around the room, and after checking the entire space and confirming that there was no danger, he began to look up information about the prison.
There are just too many files here; it's impossible to look through them all in one go.
He first went to the bookshelf labeled "Experiment Records" on the side, carefully looked through the documents, and then, based on his intuition, put the files he thought were important into his pocket.
Just as he was about to head to the next bookshelf, a loud crash startled him so much that he almost dropped the book.
The loud noise was followed by a series of light footsteps to his left.
Without hesitation, Su Zixu turned and ran back, using the side of the bookshelf as cover to hide.
Su Zixu didn't know what this thing was, but whatever it was, it couldn't be anything good to encounter here.
"Looks like it's time to go."
With that thought in mind, he slowly began to move towards the elevator.
But Su Zixu soon discovered that whenever he moved, the thing on the left would also move; it was following him.
We can't hesitate any longer; if we stay any longer, he'll die.
A sense of crisis washed over him, and Su Zixu quickly pulled a folder from the bookshelf, threw it behind him, and then ran towards the elevator.
Then, the thing didn't seem to be having any of it. The footsteps were getting closer and closer, and Su Zixu could feel that the thing was rushing towards him at an extremely fast speed.
Fortunately, the elevator was still on the tenth floor.
"Damn it, open it now!" He pounded on the open button, his eyes fixed on the crack in the elevator door. "It's too late."
Large beads of sweat rolled down his temples. Su Zixu began to pry the elevator doors open with his hands, but he was too late. A gust of wind came from behind him.
Then, Su Zixu felt a hand land on his shoulder, his calf suddenly cramped due to tension, and then the insect mask on his head was also taken off.
Su Zixu immediately held his breath, turned his head shakily, and his gaze fell on Liu Runyu's smiling face, which was more like a grimace.
"Brother Su? It's you! You look so much older... I'm Liu Runyu, brother! We live in the same room!"
After examining it for a moment, Liu Runyu recognized it as Su Zixu and threw away the file that was as hard as a brick in his hand.
At this moment, Liu Runyu was wearing a black prison uniform with the number "607" embroidered in black on a white background on the chest.
"Damn it! He's already dead, and you're still using him like this... Sigh... If you're going to kill him, just do it quickly."
Su Zixu collapsed to the ground in despair, his eyes slowly closing, seemingly no longer intending to struggle.
"Brother, please don't do this, I'm scared too."
I thought a ghost had come in, but your figure looked familiar until I saw your name tag number and realized you were one of my own!
"I'm really not dead, please don't do this."
Liu Runyu recounted his story with tears streaming down his face, his voice trembling with emotion.
Then, he slowly squatted down to comfort Su Zixu.
"You...you're not dead? You can even breathe normally now."
Su Zixu opened his eyes, and while speaking, he moved his body a little further away.
"If I were a ghost, why would I waste time talking to you? I'd just kill you."
What is that thing you're wearing? A face mask?
That was weird, it scared me! I thought some kind of alien monster had come in. Why are you wearing a mask?
Liu Runyu was both amused and exasperated. "Let's go quickly, I'm so hungry. Let me help you up."
Hearing Liu Runyu say he was hungry, Su Zixu became even more frightened. "Don't touch me, I can get up by myself."
He wasn't sure if the Liu Runyu in front of him was real. Although he hadn't seen Liu Runyu come out of the ventilation shaft again, he hadn't seen the body either.
"Could it be a ghost in disguise?" Su Zixu pondered, glancing at Liu Runyu's clear eyes. "Tsk."
It seemed unlikely; Su Zixu thought ghosts wouldn't look that stupid.
Even with this thought in mind, Su Zixu's palms still became sweaty. He decided to play dumb for the time being and run away when he had the chance.
After they both calmed down, they began to look through the files on this floor together.
"Brother Su, are the others alright?" Liu Runyu asked while searching through the clues and information.
"Yes, they're all still alive," Su Zixu replied dismissively.
"That's great... Brother Su, can I ask you for a favor?"
"you say."
