Chapter 5 Making a fortune
Chapter 5 Making a fortune
"Huh?" Li Wei jumped up and went to Chen Guojun's side, lowering his voice: "What trouble? Did this kid go too far? Do they have connections?"
Chen Guojun was taken aback, looked Li Wei up and down seriously, stepped forward and reached out to pull Li Wei up: "Come on, let's go to my office and talk."
Lu Feng interjected helplessly, "Boss, he's really alright, let him go back."
Chen Guojun kept walking: "What nonsense are you talking about? Although some things are beyond our control, we should still do our best."
Li Wei's expression was solemn. Based on the worst possible human nature, he guessed that the thugs had been caught before they even started committing a crime. Assuming they weren't novices, they would most likely deny everything, and at most, they would be charged with illegally carrying a controlled knife, plus a street fight.
Then Lu Feng's behavior has crossed the line. The two people he saw, one with a broken leg and the other with a stab wound to the abdomen, will not be easy to deal with, and their internal organs will likely be injured.
It all depends on whether his superiors can handle things. If things go well, there's no problem. But if things go wrong, Lu Feng will be in trouble. That kid is so stupid and stubborn, he's definitely the best candidate to take the blame.
I recalled the bandits who were in the same car with me; when they cursed, they used all sorts of vulgar language from different regions.
Li Wei couldn't help but gasp. This was undoubtedly a repeat offender, and possibly even a mobile gang.
The three of them quickly arrived at Chen Guojun's office after a short journey. Li Wei went straight to the sofa and sat down, scrutinizing the somewhat uneasy Lu Feng with sharp eyes.
Chen Guojun sat down behind his desk with a gloomy face, took off his hat and threw it on the table, revealing his pitiful hairline.
Li Wei glanced at them and thought to himself, "Looks like being a criminal investigator is quite mentally taxing! I thought they were all something else."
Chen Guojun pondered for a moment: "Old Li, this matter is a bit troublesome today. Seven people are refusing to admit their guilt, insisting that they are just petty thugs out for a stroll, and are now accusing you of intentionally causing harm. According to my investigation, they also have some connections."
"Then we can lock them up for a few days. Besides, if we don't stop them when we see this, are we going to wait until they start killing and setting fires? You're a leader, you've seen it all, how could such a small matter stump you?"
Chen Guojun smiled wryly: "We live in a society governed by the rule of law. No matter what we do, we must have evidence. We will not let the bad guys get away with it, but we also cannot wrong the innocent."
Li Wei pursed his lips, picked up a cigarette from the coffee table, and lit it: "Captain Chen, you're a veteran detective, aren't you?"
"Not many years, only twelve years since I started my apprenticeship."
"Oh! I'm just a blunt person, don't take offense. You've only managed to become a deputy captain after twelve years, your skills are pretty poor. You really can't tell these guys are all veterans? The difference between petty thugs and them is so obvious, even I, an ordinary citizen, can tell. You can't? Goodness, you're not planning to make my brother-in-law take the blame, are you?"
Lu Feng was very dissatisfied: "Brother-in-law, what nonsense are you talking about? Our boss is a good person."
Chen Guojun glared sharply at Lu Feng, who immediately shut up.
Chen Guojun casually tapped the table with his fingers, but his tone was intriguing: "Old Li, to be honest, I think highly of Lu Feng. I was the one who decided to transfer Lu Feng here. Do you think I would let him take the blame? And I promise that no matter what their background is, I will never let any bad guy go."
Li Wei, who had been lounging lazily on the sofa, suddenly sat up straight, his eyes gleaming: "Captain Chen, I did this. I acted impulsively when I hurt someone. All the responsibility lies with me. I hope you can do a good job of counseling the injured person. Lu Feng has nothing to do with this."
"Brother-in-law, this has nothing to do with you. You should have gone home to sleep. I was the one who dragged you there."
Li Wei turned his head and scolded, "Shut your stinking mouth, you don't know anything, get out!"
Lu Feng, neck stiff with indignation, retorted, "How could I not understand?"
Li Wei stood up impatiently, grabbed Lu Feng's clothes and dragged him to the door: "Damn it, you stupid idiot, what do you know?"
He was kicked out of the door.
Chen Guojun's lips twitched: "No swearing allowed."
Li Wei closed and locked the door, then sat back down, instantly calming himself: "I didn't yell at him, I was just stating a fact. Let's discuss this properly. Also, don't tell anyone, including my wife."
.........
Beneath the majestic national emblem, in a solemn and respectful atmosphere, the voice representing justice resounded: "Li Wei, for intentionally injuring two people in a street fight, causing minor injuries, considering his active assistance and good attitude in admitting guilt, this court hereby sentences him to three months of detention. If you disagree with this judgment, you may appeal..."
Li Wei breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing that he would only be sentenced to three months of detention. He turned to look at his wife, who was already sobbing uncontrollably, and Lu Feng, whose eyes were red and who seemed about to speak but couldn't. Then he looked at his beautiful sister-in-law and gently shook his head.
Suddenly, Lu Lili stood up, but Lu Feng grabbed her tightly. Li Wei heard her crying and shouting, "I shouldn't have left you at home alone. You always cause trouble... Waaah... Why did you go out and fight in the middle of the night? Waaah!"
Lu Jingjing covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face.
Ignoring the shouts for silence from the table in the hall, Li Wei turned around, bowed, and said, "Take care of yourself and your child."
Regardless of the circumstances, one must maintain a proper attitude towards the courts that represent justice.
.........
The noisy sounds gradually faded away. Li Wei was taken to a location directly under the police, and upon getting out of the car, he was surprised to find Chen Guojun already waiting there.
Li Wei breathed a sigh of relief. He had been prepared for hardship, but now it seemed he wouldn't be exhausted. It appeared that the person Lu Feng was following wasn't the type to discard someone after they'd served their purpose.
Since ancient times, having connections in the court has made it easier to become an official; this principle is universally accepted. (Note: The author is speculating wildly; in today's society, the world is peaceful and the government is efficient and enlightened. Therefore, the world is at peace, the country is prosperous and the people are safe, and there is absolutely no hidden agenda.)
Li Wei was assigned to a dormitory room. Apart from being harassed by a guy who called himself the boss Zhang Ritian when he entered, his other tasks were quite easy.
Then, Li Wei grabbed the leader by the neck and lifted him up. After some persuasion and education, the leader deeply realized his mistake and was amazed by Li Wei's ability to persuade him, admiring him to the point of prostration.
If it weren't for the new society, Zhang Hao, who called himself "Ritian" (meaning "the one who embodies heaven"), would have immediately become a slave.
Even so, he still became a sycophant, serving Li Wei at every turn. The pleasant sound of him calling him "Brother Wei" made Li Wei feel much more comfortable than at home.
Staying at home, I was constantly being bossed around by my wife; nothing was allowed, nothing was acceptable. Unlike now, where a single glance is enough to get her at your service.
During his detention, he could go home for one or two days each month and receive a small amount of compensation.
When the time came for Li Wei to go home, the man lingered there, reluctant to leave, leaving Lu Feng, who came to pick him up, utterly speechless.
After waving goodbye to his roommates, Li Wei got into the car, looking back several times. When he got home, his wife had already prepared a delicious meal for him.
After quickly washing up, Li Wei asked the children about it and learned that the family had never told them, and the children thought their father had gone out to work.
When Lu Feng was questioned again, he said he was unaffected. Moreover, under Chen Guojun's personal investigation, those individuals obtained conclusive evidence and were sentenced to prison terms ranging from three to five years.
Li Wei couldn't help but admire this person and urged Lu Feng to learn from him.
As the group was chatting, Chen Guojun suddenly arrived, claiming to be visiting. Li Wei greeted him with surprise.
