Chapter 27 Flight Lessons
Chapter 27 Flight Lessons
Vaughan had a comfortable last day of the weekend.
Having successfully gotten close to Snape, he is about to learn the long-desired Scarpin Apparition Charm, as well as many more advanced potions and magic.
His hard work and dedication over the past few years have finally paid off.
But for the other young wizards, the happy weekend was too short; it was gone before they could even savor it, and the first-year curriculum became increasingly demanding starting the following week.
Professors explain more and more things and assign more and more homework.
More importantly, as the first week of school has passed, the interpersonal relationships among the first-year students have begun to show clear boundaries.
The Gryffindor and Slytherin students, whose courses overlap, dislike each other. Every time there is a class shared by both houses, they sigh and complain, and then try to trip each other up in class.
Among them, the trio of Harry, Ron, and Malfoy is the most classic combination.
Although Malfoy feared Vaughn, he dared not go too far.
But he gradually realized that as long as he didn't provoke Vaughn or Granger, they wouldn't do anything to him.
Especially when Harry and Ron made mistakes.
And so Harry and Ron's nightmare began.
Think about it... In any class, someone is watching your every move. If you make even the slightest mistake, they will ridicule you in all sorts of ways, and you can't even refute them. You'll even be in the wrong if you argue.
"I never imagined there could be anyone in this world more hateful than Dudley!"
After a Transfiguration class, Harry complained to Ron.
Ron murmured with amusement, "I never imagined anyone could be worse than Fred, George, and Vaughn combined!"
Hermione was furious at his slander: "They are your brothers, Ronald Weasley."
She also hated Malfoy. Although he was afraid of Vaughn and dared not mess with her, he would deliberately raise his head whenever he saw her, as if afraid of dirtying his eyes.
A few days passed and the relationship between the trio returned to its original state.
Children don't hold grudges overnight.
Especially after Ron was forced by Harry to apologize to Hermione one day, the small conflict naturally dissipated.
However, there are still some effects; Hermione no longer calls Ron by his nickname.
Ron always felt strange being called "Ronald".
Ron explained to Harry that he was traumatized by Vaughn, who would call him by his full name every time he played a trick on him.
Therefore, he always suspected that Hermione's reconciliation with them might be for ulterior motives.
Regardless, due to Malfoy's arrogance and foul mouth, the relationship between Gryffindor, represented by Harry, and Slytherin reached a freezing point.
Throughout the entire first year, only Vaughn was an exception.
As time went by, Vaughn's presence among the various houses gradually became accepted, and people discovered that this Slytherin, who was a good student and liked to wander around with his cat, was actually not difficult to get along with.
It would be better if he had a more normal personality.
Vaughn doesn't like hanging out with boys, but he's open to pretty girls.
As a Slytherin, it is said that he returned to the Slytherin common room from Ravenclaw last weekend because he was unhappy with the word "Dungeon" written on the entrance of the common room, which he felt was too gloomy and affected his image in Ravenclaw.
So he cast a spell and transformed the "dungeon" into a "sea view room"!
This was reported to Filch by Peeves, and then spread quickly throughout Hogwarts.
No one knew why Professor Snape didn't punish Vaughn. Given that the prefect had been hospitalized with Madam Pomfrey for the past week, no upperclassman dared to change Vaughn's spell on their own.
After trying for several days without being able to erase the words conjured by the spell, Filch finally gave up.
From then on, Slytherin's dungeons became like ocean-view properties...
Each little snake felt something strange as it passed under those glittering characters, as if the dark lake outside the window had suddenly become bright with sunshine.
Not to mention, the notorious Gryffindor troublemakers, Fred and George, would often run to the entrance of the Slytherin common room, holding up two posters with pictures of sunshine, beaches, and bikinis, which they had borrowed from some Muggle wizard.
He shouted to every little snake that came in and out:
"Welcome to Weasley Real Estate Company, our valued customer."
"Lakebed beaches, mermaid beauties—you name it!"
Every time, it inevitably leads to a commotion.
Thursday brought another round of groans to the Gryffindor and Slytherin common room, as the first-year students were officially starting their flying lessons today, with the schedule finalized on Monday.
At first, everyone was very excited. Seamus Finigan boasted loudly about his flying history, as if he had never stepped off a flying broom since birth.
Ron also told Harry about his dangerous experience of stealing Charlie's broom and nearly crashing into a Muggle plane.
"...That was so exciting! We were so close, I even shook hands with a Muggle!"
He said.
Hermione ruthlessly exposed this boast: "Muggle planes aren't open-tops, and you can't shake a Muggle's hand, Ronald Weasley."
Ron blushed and stammered, "What do you know? How do you know there isn't any?"
Hermione scoffed, "Yes, of course there are, but that was decades ago. Unless you're 80 years old now, you wouldn't have seen such an old-fashioned plane in the sky!"
In the end, Harry was so annoyed by what they were saying that, having never flown before, he didn't know who was telling the truth and who was lying.
But compared to myself, who grew up in Muggle society, my classmates, who came from wizarding families, must have already been exposed to flying brooms.
For example, Malfoy!
Harry didn't want to lose to Malfoy, so before class, he specifically sought out Vaughn to ask about the precautions for riding a flying broomstick.
Vaughn rolled his eyes at him and said, "I've never ridden one before."
Harry stammered, pointing at Ron: "But Ron said he..."
"Yeah, he almost crashed into a Muggle plane, right? That was a dream he had when I took him to see a Muggle movie." Vaughn laughed heartily. "Harry, don't worry, they're all just bragging. Even in wizarding families, very few parents would let their preschool-aged children handle flying brooms."
Harry was half-convinced that he was afraid of Vaughn, until afternoon classes.
The young wizards from Gryffindor and Slytherin stood before their brooms, and Mrs. Hooch, the flying professor and also the Quidditch referee at Hogwarts, urged them on:
"Now that I've finished explaining the precautions, what are you all standing there for? Extend your right hand, place it above the broom, and say 'Get up.'"
"stand up!"
Harry succeeded on his first try, and he looked around in astonishment.
It turned out that none of the people who had boasted earlier had succeeded; among the Gryffindors, only Hermione's broom moved.
Of the Slytherin, only Vaughn succeeded.
A bunch of big talkers!
Vaughn was also quite surprised. He didn't have any particular obsession with riding broomsticks, and the system didn't list any talents specifically for flying.
Before, he thought he would have to try a few more times before he would succeed.
However, having talent is also good!
When Madam Hooch gave the order for everyone to try flying, Vaughn and Harry were both immediately launched into the air.
The little wizards below were incredibly envious!
