Chapter 848 Spider-Man Builds Connections
Peter walked out of the Avengers base's activity center and saw Bob driving a garbage truck, sweeping up trash. Bob didn't seem to be in good spirits; he was just driving around the streets silently. When he saw Peter, Bob just smiled and seemed to open his mouth to say hello, but no sound came out.
"Good afternoon, Bob. How's it going at Avengers Base?"
"It's alright, there are houses and food here, and I don't have to worry about anything else." Bob stopped the car and looked back at the street behind him. "I didn't have much to do, so I, uh, asked Mr. Stark if I could help out, and he said there was a cleaning truck in the warehouse behind, so I figured I could clean the streets in the base since I'm bored—anyway, I don't have much to do."
"Uh, okay, just let me know if you need any help."
"No, no, no, I don't need anything." Bob continued to smile and nod. "Thank you for rescuing me, Spider-Man. Thank you. I'll be going now—?"
"Okay, then I won't bother you any longer."
Peter watched the sweeper truck drive away, then after a short silence, he remarked, "If I remember correctly, Tony built the Avengers base covering several tens of hectares—"
It would probably take him several days to finish scanning everything.
Peter, who knew absolutely nothing about street sweeping, took out his phone as he thought about it, planning to go to a few places.
Tony and his team's plan was good, but Peter wanted some extra insurance.
as well as----
He called Aunt May and Uncle Ben separately to explain that Christmas Eve and Christmas Day would likely be extremely busy. He realized he probably wouldn't be able to spend Christmas at home this year. Then, he opened a portal and went directly to Nick Fury's office.
Nick Fury was sitting with his legs crossed, sipping his coffee, when a slingshot opened, and Spider-Man appeared in front of him: "I thought it was Strange, what's this? It's you!"
"—Is there any difference?"
"I thought you would teleport to the door, knock, and then come in."
So Peter opened a portal to Nick Fury's office, knocked on the door, and came in.
Fury: ————
After a moment of silence, Fury asked Peter, "Is there something you need?"
"I need a place with absolutely no internet connection to talk to you. Do you have a way to arrange that?"
Fury's expression immediately turned serious. He then silently stared at Peter while writing something, before handing Peter a note: "Here, I don't know where this place is either."
"You don't know either?"
"I don't know either."
Peter took the paper and put it in his pocket, then Fury asked, "Do you need to go anywhere else?"
Yes, in many places.
A few minutes later, at Xavier's Academy of Geniuses, Cyclops had just received a call from Bumblebee to learn what had happened when he saw a portal appear at the academy gate, and then Spider-Man appeared at the academy gate.
Peter quickly entered the teaching building and headed straight for the professor's office. The professor knew Peter was coming long ago and had Cyclops open the door in advance, so Peter didn't need to open the door again.
"Welcome, child. You must have something very urgent that you need our help with."
Cyclops chimed in after the professor finished speaking, "If you're referring to Ultron's problem, Ms. Din has already told us that I actually suggest you go to the academy less often, Spider-Man. While we know you're not a mutant, that doesn't stop others from thinking that way. They might even discover that Spider-Man is actually a mutant." This would further explain why you're unwilling to take off your mask.
Cyclops's second half of his statement was half-joking, even somewhat comical. With the increasing number of non-mutant superhumans like the Avengers, human hostility towards mutants is rapidly decreasing. As a result, the social problems of mutants are being solved in a way that neither Professor X nor Magneto had ever imagined.
"That's what I'm here for. We've discovered that one of Ultron's plans is to use Osborn Technology to create neural transmission devices through research on brainwave analyzers in order to invade the minds of all humanity. So we need insurance. If we're planning to protect the human brain in any way, then we need the X-Men's assistance."
To be precise, it would be with the help of the Professor or Emma, preferably the Professor, because only he could guarantee to use his brain to cover the entire world and protect them from Ultron's cyber invasion.
However, Ultron also knew this, so the X-Men had to protect the Professor and the Enceladus in order to ensure the safety of humanity.
Cyclops readily agreed and tossed Logan out, saying, "Logan's got nothing to do lately, let him come along."
"Speaking of which, are Deakin and X-23 ready yet?"
At this point, Cyclops's expression turned strange: "You know the Hand? The organization you and Logan wiped out?"
"—Of course I know."
Most of the Hand's ninjas are dead. The few remaining ones, such as Bullseye or Typhoon Mary, were recruited by Kingpin to work as henchmen. Moreover, the Hand once brainwashed X23 and Deckard, using them as the Middle Eastern Wolverines.
"There was a mutant who joined the Hand named Silver Knight. Sometime during the day, he got tangled up with Gambit and took X-23 with him. Then Daken ran away with him through the hole they blew up."
Peter felt like he'd been slapped in the face: "—The X-Men couldn't stop two people from breaking into prison?"
"Don't forget Gambit has a team, and there's a guy in it named Domino. And they added a few more people to their team, and they caused a huge ruckus in the academy." Cyclops acted as if the problem wasn't theirs: "We almost took them down four times! Four times! If it weren't for that damn Domino."
"So why don't you guys contact the Avengers? — Okay, I get it, it's an internal X-Men matter."
"I apologize to you here, Spider-Man." The professor sighed as well. "Scott's intention was to lure the snakes out, but these people were protected by other forces, a very powerful mental force, which made it impossible for me to stop them."
Peter was speechless, but he had other things to deal with, so he sighed, swiped a door open in the professor's office, and left: "Okay, we'll talk about this another time. I'm going to the Baxter Building now."
