Chapter 156 Thunderous Might
Chapter 156 Thunderous Might
Chapter 156 Thunderous Might
The instant Anansi shrank, Peter, aided by Venom, got up, quickly dismantled the web Anansi had set up, and picked up Thor's hammer again.
"What do you think, kid?"
Hawkeye got out of the car and walked over to Peter, who was holding a hammer. Peter shook his head: "I'm fine, but he's definitely not done for. He'll be back. Anansi was right. Just because I found a way to fight him doesn't mean I'm his match. I'm not Thor; I can't beat him this way."
"What should we do then?"
Peter was racking his brains for a solution, but on the other side, they already saw Anansi return from the quantum realm, constantly amplifying himself. The latter looked at Hawkeye and sighed repeatedly, and before Peter could react, he sent a web from his wrist to Hawkeye.
In an instant, Hawkeye, who had been hit, became vacant (although one of his eyes had become a prosthetic eye). He seemed to have seen something. Deadpool, who noticed this, rushed forward again, only to be punched to the ground by Anansi. Hawkeye also became vacant and fell into a daze.
Then came Ashley, the last one to rush over, and all three of them were taken down in one move.
"They're much simpler than you. Their desires are easily satisfied, and they become completely absorbed in them. I don't even know what wish to give you. The only world you'd be able to fulfill is a perfect world that no longer needs any superheroes. That kind of world doesn't even exist in a universe where superheroes don't exist."
Anansi said helplessly, "And if I show you such a perfect world, it only proves that you can still lift that hammer."
From beginning to end, the illusions or stories Anansi created for Peter were all meant to disqualify Peter from wielding Thor's hammer, but this seemed impossible. Peter looked at Anansi and then suddenly said something.
"Actually, this hammer isn't hard to pick up."
"Perhaps so for you."
No, I'm telling the truth.
Peter's words made Anansi look at Thor's hammer, and she asked incredulously, "You mean... you mean that anyone could actually lift this hammer, but it's just sitting there?"
That's pretty much it. When Peter grasped Thor's hammer, he heard Thor's dying words: anyone who is willing to become a hero and protect this world on the verge of destruction can lift Thor's hammer and become a new Thor.
So at the end of his life, Thor relaxed the conditions, but for forty-five years, those who tried to lift Mjolnir were either bullies or greedy people who overestimated their abilities. Those oppressed civilians, those heroes who had lost hope and remained silent, none of them thought they could lift Mjolnir. Little did they know that if they had the courage to try, everyone could have lifted this hammer.
"And it also reminded me of exactly how to defeat you."
Anansi froze, then laughed: "What nonsense are you talking about? Are you serious? You really think you can beat me with this hammer?"
"Yes, why not?"
Looking at Anansi standing not far from him, Peter took a deep breath. Instead of rushing forward, he slammed Thor's hammer heavily into the ground. He wasn't attacking the ground, but using the power of his "patriarch" totem to tear apart the barrier of reality. Then, venom spread from under the Iron Spider armor, grabbing Anansi's limbs and pulling him toward the rift in the multiverse.
"What are you doing?"
While resisting the symbiote's pull, Anansi asked a question, while Peter inserted Thor's hammer into the spatial rift and asked a question.
"I'm thinking, if there were a hammer that could be lowered in its requirements so Spider-Man could lift it, how many hammers like Thor's in the multiverse would be capable of lifting it?"
"You want to use the Web of Fate to summon the spider totem from the multiverse that wields Thor's hammer to help you?" Anansi laughed dismissively. "You idiot, such things are extremely rare. What can a few times the amount of lightning do?"
"A few times more? Ha, looks like liberal arts students aren't very good at math." Peter gripped Thor's hammer with both hands, letting Venom pull Anansi over with all its might. As he opened the rift, he resonated the divine power of Thor's hammer with the entire multiverse through the Web of Fate.
Peter could tell that neither Miguel nor Anansey had actually used the Web of Fate to traverse the multiverse; only he could see the Web of Fate during his journey. The difference lay in the fact that only the Spider-Totem could resonate with the Web of Fate, and he was currently searching for Spider-Men wielding Thor's hammer.
"Don't you know that even a fraction of the infinite, even one ten-millionth, still results in infinity?"
Upon hearing this, Anansi's expression changed. He stared incredulously at the hammer still trapped in the rift of reality. He understood that if the immense power failed to strike him, it would have nowhere to go and might even destroy the entire planet. So he began to tear at the symbiote on his body. But Venom had stuck to Anansi so tightly to prevent him from being an illusion and to prevent him from escaping. How could it let him go?
Anansi fired a web at the mountain, which stuck to the peak, allowing her to stabilize herself. It was at this moment that...
Ashley Barton broke free from Anansi's control and then forcefully bit through Anansi's spider silk.
"No!!!!!"
In an instant, Anansi lost his footing and was pulled to Peter's side by Venom. Then, the combined power of most of the multiverse's response to Peter's call, the Thor's Spiders, struck Anansi in the face. This was the third time Peter had punched him in the same way. This time, however, the immense force did not send Anansi flying. The pure white lightning struck Anansi, pierced through the atmosphere, and shot directly into the depths of the universe, dissipating into the cosmos at a speed exceeding the speed of light.
Anansi's already dark skin was now steaming, and he collapsed to the ground, his vision blurring. Peter sighed, then placed Thor's hammer on top of him before sitting down, exhausted, and watching Ashley try to lift the hammer but to no avail.
How did you wake up?
"I dreamt I was the boss of the entire wasteland, a pretty good dream, except for one thing: my good-for-nothing father was cheering in there too." Ashley looked at Hawkeye lying on the ground having a wonderful dream: "Making my father happy and becoming the boss of the entire wasteland, these two things can't happen together."
"One story cannot satisfy two completely opposite dreams." Peter looked at Ashley. "If you want to solve this problem, you have to try a new approach. After all, you can't change your own father."
The part about Thor's hammer isn't just something I made up; it's a real fact. Under certain circumstances, Odin and Thor can relax the qualification checks on the holder of Thor's hammer—as explained by Thor in the DC vs. Marvel crossover issue when Superman returned the hammer.
Although I think Da Chao could have won even if he didn't relax his requirements.
Anansi is probably the enemy I've spent the longest time fighting so far. It took me a full four chapters to defeat her, which is quite impressive.
