Chapter 192: Zombies in the Air Raid Shelter?
Chapter 192: Zombies in the Air Raid Shelter?
No sooner had he finished speaking than Shen Yu's phone rang. The words "Lin Jianguo" appeared on the screen.
Shen Yu pressed the answer button and walked to a quiet corner of the lobby.
"Mr. Shen! It's extremely urgent!"
As soon as the call connected, Lin Jianguo's anxious voice came through, with the sounds of keyboard typing and staff members hurriedly reporting in the background.
"You've probably heard about the air-raid shelter at Shibatidi in Yuzhou, right? Three days ago, four college students sneaked in to explore, but they never came out again. The local police searched for three days without any leads, so they reported it to us."
Lin Jianguo took a deep breath, his tone becoming even more somber:
"The Chongqing 749 Bureau sent three team members to investigate, but only one escaped. That team member is still in the ICU, unconscious, covered in injuries, and keeps repeating that there are zombies in his mouth."
The doctor couldn't find anything wrong, saying it was as if a part of his soul had been sucked away.
"Yesterday they sent five more people, led by Captain Li Jun, with a full set of equipment and the Yang Qi talismans you taught us to draw."
Less than an hour after they went inside, the walkie-talkie completely lost contact. We checked the security camera footage at the entrance and only saw them go in; they never came out again.
"The entire Shibati area is now sealed off by the armed police; no one dares to go in anymore. Our men found black chrysanthemum markings of the Nine Chrysanthemum Sect on the wall at the cave entrance, exactly the same as those at Fu'an Building. Mr. Shen, it must be them; they've set up an evil formation inside!"
Lin Jianguo's tone was pleading:
"The support team sent by headquarters won't arrive for another two days. You happen to be in Chongqing right now, could you please go and check on them first? If it gets any later, the five team members inside might really be gone."
Shen Yu remained silent for two seconds before turning his gaze back towards the Eighteen Steps. The Yin energy there was so dense that it had almost solidified, like a black cloud shrouding the entire area.
"Okay," Shen Yu said calmly. "I'll go there tomorrow morning."
"That's wonderful! Thank you, Mr. Shen!" Lin Jianguo was overjoyed. "I've already instructed Zhao Rui to fully cooperate with you. Please feel free to tell him anything you need!"
After hanging up the phone, Zhao Rui immediately stepped forward, his eyes resolute:
"Mr. Shen, I'll go with you! I've brought a full set of equipment: a peach wood sword, a yang energy talisman, and peach wood nails. I can help you with the work, or even keep watch on the perimeter!"
His palms were slightly sweaty, revealing a hint of nervousness, but more than that, a sense of eagerness.
Shen Yu glanced at him and nodded:
"Okay. We'll leave at seven tomorrow morning. Go and prepare some glutinous rice and cinnabar. You can stay at the hotel next door tonight. Call me anytime if you need anything."
"Yes!" Zhao Rui immediately stood at attention and saluted, his face showing excitement.
Back in the room, Jiang Xinlan gave the children a bath and coaxed them to sleep.
She stepped out of the bedroom and saw Shen Yu standing on the balcony, gazing at the distant night sky. The moonlight shone on him, outlining his tall and straight back, yet carrying a hint of aloofness and coldness.
"Won't it be dangerous?" Jiang Xinlan walked over and gently hugged him from behind. "Zhao Rui... can he handle it?"
"It's alright." Shen Yu turned around, took her hand, and felt the coolness of her fingertips.
"They're just a few crafted zombies, nothing to me. Zhao Rui will be fine with me. You take good care of the children at the hotel; I'll definitely be back before noon."
"Mmm." Jiang Xinlan leaned against him and nodded.
After Jiang Xinlan fell asleep, Shen Yu walked to the sofa in the living room and sat down.
He took out three yellow talisman papers and a vermilion pen from his backpack, and a wisp of pale golden spiritual energy gathered at his fingertips. The vermilion pen moved quickly across the talisman papers, and in just a few seconds, three pure yang talismans were drawn.
The patterns on the talisman glowed with a faint golden light, radiating a warm yang energy.
He touched the lightning-struck wooden plaque in his pocket again, his eyes turning cold.
The Nine Chrysanthemums Faction has overreached. They haven't even settled the score with Fu'an Restaurant yet, and now they're causing such a commotion in Yuzhou.
This time, we absolutely cannot let them leave alive.
At seven o'clock the next morning, Zhao Rui knocked on Shen Yu's door on time.
He was dressed in a black combat uniform, carrying a huge hiking backpack, with a military dagger and a brand-new peach wood sword at his waist, and holding a high-powered flashlight and walkie-talkie in his hand. He was fully equipped and in high spirits.
"Mr. Shen, you're ready!" Zhao Rui saluted, his eyes bright.
"Okay." Shen Yu nodded, took the breakfast he was offered, and said, "Eat it on the way."
The two went downstairs to check out and handed their room keys to the front desk. Zhao Rui then drove towards the Shibati area.
"Mr. Shen, latest update." Zhao Rui reported while driving.
"The team member who was in a coma is still in the ICU and shows no signs of waking up. There is still no news about the five missing people. Captain Wang has not slept for two days and has been guarding the site the whole time."
Furthermore, we found some fresh footprints near the cave entrance, which appear to have been left last night and were likely made by members of the Nine Chrysanthemum Sect.
Shen Yu took a bite of the steamed bun, said nothing, and looked out the window.
The closer you get to Shibati, the fewer pedestrians there are on the street. Many shops are closed, and residents gather in twos and threes along the roadside, whispering about the air-raid shelter, their faces full of fear.
The car stopped 500 meters away from the air-raid shelter.
From afar, three yellow police tapes could be seen at the intersection, with armed police standing guard. Outside the police tapes, many onlookers craned their necks to peer inside.
"Mr. Shen!" A middle-aged man in a black jacket immediately came forward.
He was Wang Yong, the captain of the 749 Bureau in Chongqing. His eyes were bloodshot, his chin was covered in stubble, and his face was pale and haggard.
Seeing Shen Yu, he grasped Shen Yu's hand tightly as if it were a lifeline, and said in a hoarse voice,
"You've finally come! Please, you must save my team members! They're all young men in their early twenties, and their parents are waiting for them at home!"
"Take me to see this first." Shen Yu withdrew his hand, his tone calm.
Wang Yong immediately nodded and led them across the cordon towards the air-raid shelter.
The entrance to the air-raid shelter was deep in a dilapidated alley; it was a huge arched doorway blocked by a thick iron plate.
The surrounding area was filled with a strong stench of blood and decay, which was nauseating even from a distance of more than ten meters.
