Chapter 214 The Director's Speech
Chapter 214 The Director's Speech
"Sir wizard, you wouldn't want your fellow countrymen to die here, would you?"
"We may have had some heated exchanges and unpleasant interactions in the past, but please believe me, every wizard is safe. We need to talk."
"Confrontation is undoubtedly foolish. Due to my foolishness, I have made a grave mistake. Please give me a chance to make amends and let us cooperate for mutual benefit. I believe we have a bright and promising future. I guarantee this with my intellect and ability."
These words are logically clear and can be very persuasive to someone with ideas.
The first sentence made the rescuers hesitant to act.
The second sentence ensured the safety of the captured magic wizard.
The last sentence left a way for both sides to back down, while also revealing his own thoughts: he had never given up his ambitions and hoped to cooperate and take things further.
The final guarantee is also very interesting. It is a guarantee based on one's intellect and ability, rather than on other things, which further demonstrates one's own value.
Instead of seeking the safety, reputation, or share of the profits of other wizards, he used his own intellect and abilities as a guarantee. This was undoubtedly a demonstration of his capabilities to the wizard who came to his rescue, and a response to what the wizard had just said, telling him that as the Director General of the French Foreign Affairs Office, he was qualified and capable of achieving cooperation.
"There are no permanent friends! Only permanent interests!"
He cleared his throat and noticed that the giant fire serpent had stopped moving, its nine heads staring straight at the ground, as if it were staring back at him.
There is a play!
Even if the rescuers outside don't care about the life of the Magician Wizard, they won't give up the visible benefits!
He was overjoyed. He had discovered the wizard's weakness. As long as there is a weakness, he is human and can be exploited!
And a top-notch intelligence expert like him, given a leverage point, can disrupt an order!
Furong was horrified by the shamelessness of the self-proclaimed Director of the Foreign Affairs Bureau. She couldn't understand why someone of such high position and power would be so unscrupulous, resorting to all sorts of despicable means to achieve his goals.
Her eyebrows shot up: "This is outrageous! This is the behavior of robbers, thugs, and bandits!"
Maxim had seen many people like this; many of her friends at the Ministry of Magic operated in the same way, only talking about interests and nothing else.
But her friends didn't act as decisively as the bureau chief: "He's truly an elite figure. No wonder he became the head of the country's intelligence."
"You call someone like that an elite?" Furong couldn't understand why her principal would say that.
"Dracule, you must remember that most people are ordinary people, without the talent to transcend the system. Don't compare yourself to Ryan in everything. The vast majority of people who want to gain status and power can only struggle within the system, using every means to absorb the nutrients for growth, thereby strengthening themselves and climbing to the top through the system."
"What you disapprove of is simply the path he took to grow up. No one is born bad; isn't it all shaped by the trials and tribulations of life?"
Maxim sighed. She had taught batch after batch of students, those passionate young people, so ambitious and cheerful, who, after entering society, would wither into lifeless fish eyes within a year or two, losing all the dazzling brilliance they had as bright pearls in school.
Ryan chimed in, "That's true. In this vast world, it's incredibly difficult for most people to even stand on their own two feet, let alone rise above others."
Furong shivered. She suddenly wondered if she might become the kind of person she despises now, decades later.
It's quite possible—she sadly discovers that she stands out among her peers, and is also blessed with good looks. But many of her graduating seniors may have possessed, or at least some of, these qualities.
But, are there still any of those current senior students who look the same as they did when they were young?
Perhaps it no longer exists; it has become what parents, societal norms, and society desire.
With his extensive experience in counseling others, Ryan could roughly guess what Fleur was thinking: "What lies before us is a turning point in history, an irresistible trend. There is no need to worry, no need to be afraid, because we always move forward."
We can choose to change ourselves, but we will never abandon our principles because of external forces.
Hibiscus stared blankly at Ryan for a long time: "Darling—I believe you."
Ryan instinctively took a step back, feeling overwhelmed by the French enthusiasm.
It wasn't just Furong who was deeply moved.
The three adult wizards each had their own ideas.
Quirrell was full of energy, as if he had been injected with chicken blood. He could choose to be an ordinary Squib, living a muddled life; or he could stand up and become a mentor to magic wizards, helping more people get out of the predicament of being unable to cast spells.
It is obvious that the latter’s achievements will etch the name Quirinus Quirrell deep into the history of magic.
Dumbledore was reminiscing, reminiscing about the phrase "for the greater good," reminiscing about that summer, reminiscing about the wind in the valley, reminiscing about all the mistakes, all the hatred, and all the tears.
Then, composing himself and burying his reminiscence deep in his memory, he reverted to the wise and composed great white wizard he once was: "A new magical age has begun, and we are all its pioneers. Ryan, there will never be a wizard in this world with a better eye than you."
He paused, then asked, "Did you find it?"
"We can't hide it from the principal after all," Ryan said. "We've determined the general area, and now I need to instantly master this one-time door key to bring them out."
Ok?
What did Dumbledore and Lane mean by that? Quirrell, Fleur, and Maxim all looked bewildered. Wasn't Lane's plan to force the French intelligence service to back down without intimidation, so that they would obediently send back the captured dwarf wizard?
"The safety of the dwarf wizards is of paramount importance. Are you confident?" Dumbledore asked Ryan again, not out of distrust, but to ensure Ryan remained focused when he took action.
"It's not a big problem; it's just a one-time use door key. I'm 98% confident."
Ryan was confident that there were no more than three people in the world who could remotely create a one-time door key from a distance of more than 200 meters, and he was one of them.
Perhaps his experience and skills are not as rich as those of established alchemy masters, but the powerful magic he can control is much stronger than that of almost all alchemists.
Victory is achieved through force.
Underground, the Director of the Foreign Affairs Bureau was still rambling on and on, while the giant fiery python, in perfect harmony, remained still and kept circling, as if to indicate the torment and turmoil it was experiencing.
Holding the walkie-talkie, he felt that tonight's speech was the best he had ever given, and he even wanted to applaud himself.
He didn't even want to relax and drink tea, because he was afraid that relaxing and drinking water would interrupt his current flow of inspiration and ideas.
"Just as I said, with the help of a wizard, I can bring down this current president. At that time, France will be your most reliable ally."
