Chapter 4. Admit it! Love is real!
Chapter 4. Admit it! Love is real!
"This is different, Dudley. Magic is a weird thing that we can't control, and those freaks with sticks are too dangerous! Staying away from them is the best choice!"
Vernon remained steadfast in his convictions.
"Then why did you marry your mother, who has a witch sister? Didn't you know about your mother's family situation before the marriage? Didn't you anticipate that your life would be disturbed by uncontrollable forces because of this?"
Dali then changed the subject, asking three questions that struck at the heart of the matter.
Upon hearing these questions, Penny, who was about to interject and agree with Vernon, stopped herself from speaking and couldn't help but look at Vernon, also anticipating his answer.
She had asked a similar question long ago, before she got married, when she was still a young girl.
Looking back after so many years, it still fills me with happiness.
"Because I love her, I love you, Mommy, Dali baby!"
Vernon was silent for a moment, seemingly surprised that his son would ask such a question, but soon his eyes became affectionate, and he answered Dudley's question very solemnly.
Then, he looked at Penny with extreme affection, at his wife.
"Love can overcome all difficulties; love can make me abandon the life principles I have always adhered to."
Vernon spoke as if he were a philosopher expounding on philosophy, which was quite unlike his usual self.
Penny was overjoyed and shyly threw herself into Vernon's arms, showering everyone with their affection.
Seeing this, Dali was not surprised, as he knew his parents in this life very well.
Vernon is burly and hates strange things; he has a bad temper. Penny has a long neck, loves gossip, and is sharp-tongued.
But they were truly in love.
He never vented his bad temper on his family.
Well, except for poor Harry.
"Mom and Dad, although I really don't want to bother you, I think now is the best time to make things clear."
Dudley said somewhat inappropriately that, taking advantage of the warm moment when his parents were surrounded by love, he wanted to make them fully realize the importance of learning magic.
Upon hearing Dudley's voice, Vernon and Penny separated from their affectionate conversation and looked at Dudley again, waiting for him to continue.
"Since you were able to accept Mom's relationship with a wizard a long time ago because of love, please continue the influence of this love now."
Harry must go to Hogwarts! If you don't want to see Harry really turn into a monster! A mindless, destructive monster of black mist!
"what?!"
The Dursleys gasped in surprise.
Harry, sitting next to Dudley, also looked surprised and somewhat frightened.
Clearly, the whole family was terrified by what Dudley said.
Dudley reached out and patted Harry's hair to calm him down, then began to explain the basics of magic:
"If a young wizard is in a repressive and negative environment for a long time, suppressing his magical power and not receiving proper guidance, a terrible dark power will be born in his body."
The wizards called this power 'Obscurus', and the little wizards who were born with 'Obscurus' were called 'Obscurus'.
When the emotions and power of the 'Silent Ones' are suppressed to a certain limit, or when they are suddenly stimulated by some kind of stimulus, they will completely turn into a terrifying black mist, causing great destruction and damage.
Mom and Dad, your constant denial of Harry's magic and special abilities, your neglect of him, and your emotional abuse of him are actually quite dangerous behaviors.
To put it bluntly, without my guidance and support, Harry might have become an Obscurial before he was ten years old.
Given Harry's kind nature, he might, before completely losing his mind and causing destruction, distance himself from us, find a secluded place, and go to see his deceased Aunt Lily and Uncle James.
Young wizards need proper guidance to better control their magical powers and prevent harm to themselves and others. This is why all young wizards must attend magic school at the age of eleven.
Dudley was spouting nonsense, half-truths and half-lies. In order to make his stubborn parents reconsider their actions, he even fabricated an extremely terrible consequence.
Sure enough, the Dursleys' eyes widened in shock.
"This...this...why didn't they tell me these things!"
Penny completely lost her composure, screaming, "If they tell me I won't, I absolutely won't..."
Vernon quickly embraced the agitated Penny and comforted her.
He was terrified and felt extremely regretful, but his regret contained less guilt for Harry's safety and more lingering fear that his family had almost met with misfortune.
In Vernon's heart, the meager feelings he had for Harry, accumulated over time, were far less important than the safety of his wife and son.
"As expected, you all still love Harry! Especially you, Mom!"
Dudley smiled and gently pinched Harry's palm.
Harry suddenly realized that his cousin's code meant... that what he had just said was an exaggeration.
His heart settled down, and seeing that Aunt Penny was not in good condition, he quickly stretched out his hands and once again cast the 'calm and peaceful' magic that his cousin had guided him to develop.
Penny's expression softened, and she quickly denied what Dudley had just said, regaining her composure:
"No, I didn't. Who loves him?! His mother took away most of my parental care during my childhood, just because she has damned magic! I hate Lily, I hate her so much! Her children are no exception!"
Petunia's attempt to cover up her misunderstanding shocked Harry, turning him pale, but it only made Dudley's smile soften.
Dudley patted Harry's hair again, comforting him while correcting his mother:
"No, Mom! You love Harry, and you love Aunt Lily too!"
If you didn't love him, you wouldn't have adopted Harry ten years ago.
If you didn't love her, you wouldn't have carefully stored the blanket that wrapped Harry in and the letters you exchanged with Aunt Lily in the deepest part of your bedroom closet.
If you didn't love him, when you read Dumbledore's letter and learned that Aunt Lily's family was being persecuted by a powerful dark wizard, shouldn't the right thing to do have been to send Harry to an orphanage?
“That’s because the letter said…” Penny pursed her lips, stubbornly trying to deny the feelings.
Unexpectedly, Dali immediately picked up where she left off:
"Because the letter says that the protective magic Aunt Lily sacrificed her life to set for Harry can only remain effective if Harry lives with Aunt Lily's blood relatives, and can protect him from dark wizards until he turns eighteen, right?"
"Dali, how do you know so much about wizards? And you even sneaked into our bedroom and ransacked it?"
Penny was very confused and a little angry. She deliberately acted very angry in an attempt to change the subject.
"That's not important, Mom!"
Dali was unaffected. He believed that a short, sharp pain was better than a long, drawn-out one. He had been caught in the middle between his parents and cousin for ten years and didn't want to compromise any longer. Today, he was determined to achieve his goal in one fell swoop and secure his rear.
He began seriously and continued:
"The important thing is that the letter only said that Harry would be under Aunt Lily's magical protection, but it didn't say that our family would also be under magical protection. Harry had offended an extremely powerful dark wizard. Under these circumstances, you still adopted Harry."
This proves I was right, Aunt Lily and Harry do have a place in your heart! You just don't want to admit it!
