Chapter 351 The Gift
Chapter 351 The Gift
In the dead of night, the entire city was shrouded in thick darkness.
The night wind on the rooftop, carrying a chilling cold, howled through every corner, accompanied by a whistling roar.
In the dim light, two figures, like ghosts, slowly emerged from the darkness.
Their footsteps were light, but even so, they were still very clear on the quiet rooftop, each step feeling like they were stepping on each other's heartbeats.
The man on the left was rather burly, with incredibly sharp eyes that coldly surveyed his surroundings. His hands were slightly clenched into fists, hidden in his sleeves, ready to deal with any potential dangers at any moment.
The woman on the right is relatively thinner, but she has a hot figure; even just looking at her silhouette, she exudes a fiery aura.
The two walked towards each other, and the distance between them gradually decreased with each step they took.
Their gazes met in the air and quickly lingered on each other, as if trying to see through one another. Their breathing was very soft, as if they were intentionally trying not to make a sound.
With each step they took closer, their vigilance increased.
When the distance between them shrank to ten meters, they stopped at the same time, as if by telepathy.
After an unknown amount of time, Shi finally broke the silence with a cold voice.
"Where is what I asked for?"
"You might not even have brought what I need." Chang Lei grinned, his burly body leaning slightly forward, ready to face an attack at any moment.
Hearing the other person's words, Shi's gaze darkened. "Don't you think this joke is a bit old?"
"It's always something new to see." Chang Lei smiled slightly, his gaze falling on the shadows behind Shi. "...You actually came alone. I thought you'd bring your gang of henchmen."
"Where is Tang Zijun?" Shi ignored Chang Lei and spoke coldly. "This is a collaboration between him and me. Why is an evil creature like you here?"
"Sorry to trouble my boss to make this trip personally, you're far from qualified. My boss has a lot on his plate lately, so I'm the one who has to make the trip." Chang Lei's lips curled up slightly. "I've investigated your past, and I know what the Powerful Ones did to you, so I don't care about your hostility towards me, but you'd better not have any inappropriate thoughts."
Are you threatening me?
"I just hope you won't ruin this collaboration, after all, my boss seems to trust you a lot..."
After he finished speaking, the atmosphere on the rooftop fell silent once again.
The two remained locked in a stalemate, each scrutinizing the other, but what they were truly thinking was something only they themselves knew.
A gentle breeze ruffled the hem of their clothes, making a rustling sound.
The night sky became even more deathly silent, a silence that sent chills down one's spine.
Both of them were on edge, like a string about to snap; every second that passed felt like an indescribable torment.
After a moment's hesitation, Shi slowly withdrew his gaze, the hostility in his eyes fading slightly. "Since Tang Zijun sent you here, you should know what my purpose is and why I didn't see what I was looking for."
"Don't worry, it's right here." Chang Lei gently raised his hand, took out a small cloth bag from his pocket, and then casually flipped open a corner to reveal the crystalline substance inside.
With only a corner of the cloth bag showing, the negative energy inside could no longer be suppressed and began to overflow. The black mist was even visible to the naked eye, slowly rising into the air.
"Here are the dark crystals you wanted." Chang Lei quickly covered the cloth, blocking the scattered negative energy, and then continued, "These days, it's not easy to collect so many undiluted dark crystals. You should thank the establishment of the Demon Surveillance Bureau; otherwise, it would probably take you quite a while to get these on your own."
"My affairs are none of your business. You just need to hand over the things to me." Shi didn't move, but her shadow suddenly moved, spreading out far away and heading straight for Chang Lei's head.
A dark shadow swept through the air and then came to a sudden stop right in front of Chang Lei.
Despite Shi's blatant provocation, Chang Lei remained unfazed, his smile still on his face. He placed the cloth bag on Shi's shadow and then lowered his arm. "Are you satisfied now?"
The shadow suddenly shrank, and the cloth bag quickly fell into Shi's hands.
She gave Chang Lei a cold look, having no intention of communicating with him at the moment, and turned to walk quickly into the shadows.
"Wait a moment."
Just then, Chang Lei suddenly called out to her.
Hearing the voice behind him, he hesitated for a moment before slowly stopping. "Is there something else?"
"The dark crystals I gave you earlier were part of a deal between you and your boss. However, when I came here this time, my boss specifically gave me something and told me to make sure it reaches you." Chang Lei said with a faint smile, arms crossed. "What is it?" Shi frowned slightly, turned around, her eyes filled with doubt and wariness.
Chang Lei didn't answer, but simply snapped his fingers. Then, a huge package covered by a urea bag appeared in Shi's field of vision on the previously empty rooftop.
Upon seeing this, he instinctively took a step back, while his hands were wrapped around two black shadow tentacles.
Having experienced the incident with the illusory dragon, the loser of greed was already on edge. When she realized that Chang Lei had deceived her five senses, she immediately prepared to fight back.
However, after a moment of tension, Shi gradually calmed down when he saw Chang Lei, who was full of openings and showed no intention of attacking.
Her gaze slowly moved from Chang Lei to the strange package. She hadn't noticed it because her senses had been clouded by Chang Lei, but now that the package was revealed, she immediately smelled a foul stench.
"What is this?" He frowned and covered his nose with his finger.
"A gift for you."
"Gift?"
Now, Shi was even more puzzled.
Chang Lei, on the other hand, smiled. "Weren't you curious about where Tang Zijun went? Since you've investigated some things, you should know Tang Zijun's position in the Demon Supervision Bureau, right?"
Her eyes flickered, and after a pause, she asked uncertainly, "This thing... it was brought from that... weird dream world?"
"Smart." Chang Lei nodded, continuing, "This time Tang Zijun brought back gifts for everyone: his sister, Qin Nan, and your Ms. Tan..."
"Of course, that includes you."
Staring intently at Chang Lei's face, Shi's gaze shifted constantly.
She didn't actually know much about Tang Zijun. She only knew that Tang Zijun was the only six-star agent in the Demon Surveillance Bureau, responsible for writing intelligence about the dream world.
She had read through those intelligence reports, which looked like a third-rate novel, so she never took them seriously. However, when she learned the "truth" about Tang Zijun and was preparing to investigate the Demon Bureau again these past two days, she discovered that the Demon Bureau had been equipped with advanced detection devices.
These devices are very effective and seem to be specifically designed for the Shadow World. Although they can't stop her, they will still trigger the alarm at the Bureau of Demonic Control building as soon as she appears, so they gave up.
What she didn't expect was that before she could even investigate the other party, Tang Zijun would send her a "gift" from another world.
"How do I know if this is a trap?" Shi asked softly.
"Because I have no reason to lie to you, and besides, this is Tang Zijun's idea," Chang Lei shrugged and replied casually.
Her expression was somewhat complicated, but this time she didn't say much. Instead, she waved her hand lightly, and then saw the shadowy tentacles move again and directly lift the urea bag on the package.
As the obstruction was lifted, the head of an enormous, ferocious monster appeared in Shi's field of vision.
It was an incredibly huge and bizarre head, with the broken neck as thick as a man's waist. The thick blood plasma had long since dried. On the monster's face, there was still the expression of struggle before death, with its eyes wide open, its eyeballs almost bulging out of their sockets.
His mouth was wide open, revealing two rows of sharp teeth, with bits of unidentifiable flesh still clinging to them. Half of his face was covered in a dense rash of bumps, from which the foul stench emanated.
Looking at the rough-skinned, strangely shaped head that was clearly not a creature from the real world, Shiyao's brows furrowed even deeper.
"What exactly is this thing?"
"Ogres, or you could call them mountain monsters," Chang Lei replied. "These things often attack passing merchants, and they're quite powerful; in our area, they'd be considered elite."
"So what does Tang Zijun mean by having you bring this to me, so I can frame it and hang it on the wall?" Shi asked coldly.
"We're so close, haven't you noticed anything interesting?" Chang Lei chuckled and took a step forward.
Shi was taken aback by Chang Lei's sudden approach, then his expression darkened slightly. "What do you mean? What's so interesting about this place?"
Looking at Shi's pretty face, Chang Lei paused for a moment, then suddenly realized. "It seems you really don't know anything... Ha... Why don't you go ask your god?"
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Shi's gaze kept shifting back and forth between Chang Lei and the cannibal.
Chang Lei grinned, a fierce glint in his eyes.
"Go ask your God what He was doing twelve years ago."
"Go and ask them why they want to extend their reach into an even more terrifying world."
"Why would they expose the real world to danger again...?"
