Chapter 9. Not emotionally intelligent enough? That's the result of high-IQ decision-making!
After the agreement was signed, Teacher Ouyang took the other admissions teachers out for dinner. He originally wanted Luo Yao and his family to come along, but Luo Yao declined.
Teacher Ouyang figured the family probably had something to say, so she didn't insist on taking them out to eat.
Once Li Hong saw that the agreement had been signed, she knew she had no chance, so she took the opportunity to leave.
After a group of admissions officers left the small restaurant, Ms. Wu asked her classic question: "Where are we going to eat now?"
"Isn't there a restaurant not far away? Let's eat here? I'll discuss the rest with Luo later."
"Fine, what can you do? You're the one who signed that guy today!"
"Haha, teachers, have a good lunch today! I'll cover everything!" Teacher Ouyang was overjoyed to have completed his task. He led a group of admissions teachers to Wang's Stir-fry, which was just a few steps away from the Luo family's house.
The owner of Wang's Stir-Fry was none other than Wang Ergou, who had a minor grudge against the Luo family. When he saw several men in suits walking over from the Luo family's house, he hurriedly invited them to come in and sit down.
"Do you gentlemen find the restaurant next door unpalatable? Don't worry, our dishes can be customized to your liking. You can have them spicy or sweet, if you prefer," Wang Ergou said as he poured tea.
The admissions officers present had seen it all; after hearing Wang Ergou say this, they exchanged glances.
Both this place and the Luo family's restaurant are small establishments, so it seems the owner definitely has some kind of grudge against the Luo family.
"No, it's not that, I just didn't want to trouble them," Teacher Ouyang said truthfully, but Wang Ergou didn't understand what she meant.
"Oh, you're such a kind guest, speaking up for them."
"Boss, you've misunderstood. We're all here for the Luo family's son. Once we've finished our business, it wouldn't be right to trouble them to stay for dinner."
So many people are doing this for the Luo family's son.
What could be wrong?
Wang Ergou hurriedly asked what had happened, and after learning that these teachers had come to invite Luo Yao to go to university, Wang Ergou felt uneasy.
"Why does he get to go to college? I remember he was only in high school!"
"What is this if not a violation of regulations?" Wang Ergou had no idea what independent enrollment was; he only knew that to get into university, one had to take the college entrance examination.
If you get into university without taking the college entrance exam, you've definitely gotten in through connections!
"Hey, what did you say! What violation of regulations!" The admissions officer from Jiang University was already annoyed because he hadn't completed his task today, and now that a small restaurant owner was accusing them of violating regulations, he got even angrier.
"I...I heard that you have to take the college entrance exam to go to university!" Wang Ergou saw that the other person's voice suddenly became louder, and his momentum immediately weakened.
"Boss, it's no wonder you didn't know; this kind of thing shouldn't have happened in this town before!"
"This is an independent admissions process, which means that each university can select some outstanding students in advance to study at their school."
"Of course, these students aren't just randomly selected; they need to win awards in national competitions."
Wang Ergou had no idea about this. He stared blankly and said, "Could it be that the Luo family's kid won a national competition award?"
"Yes, and they took more than one. Otherwise, we wouldn't have come all the way from the capital, Zhejiang, and Wuhan!"
Hearing Teacher Ouyang say that they had actually come from such a far place, I found it even more incredible.
"You came all this way for a child? Why?" Wang Ergou asked incredulously.
"Because he's a rare genius, brother. You should know very well what the education level is like in your town, right?"
"Under these circumstances, Luo Yao defeated a group of high-achieving students who had been bribed to win first prize in the national competition, and in fact, in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Just think about it, how could the country allow someone like that to be buried in this small town for the rest of his life?"
Wang Ergou's face darkened. He had thought that Luo Yao was just a little smarter than his son, but who would have thought that someone would tell him that Luo Yao had surpassed all other students in the country and won the first prize in the national competition!
"So... he's going to study in a big city?" Wang Ergou looked at Teacher Ouyang incredulously, wanting to confirm the answer again.
"That's good. Luo Yao will be able to enjoy the best education in the big city from now on."
Hearing what Teacher Ouyang said, Wang Ergou became anxious. He tugged at Teacher Ouyang's sleeve and asked, "Teacher, my child is about to take the college entrance exam. Could you please help me take him with me?"
Teacher Ouyang glanced at Teacher Xu, who was snickering beside him, and said to Wang Ergou, "Brother, that's an admissions officer from Peking University. Why don't you go ask him?"
Upon hearing that admissions officers from Peking University had also arrived, Wang Ergou immediately abandoned Teacher Ouyang and went to pull Teacher Xu away.
While cursing Ouyang under her breath, Teacher Xu patiently asked Wang Ergou, "Brother, our independent admissions program only accepts students who have won first prize in national competitions. Has your child won any awards?"
"Um, do school-organized competitions not count?"
"Not really."
Seeing Wang Ergou's dejected look, Teacher Xu felt sorry for him and offered some words of comfort: "Brother, every child's path is different. You don't need to force it. What your son is good at, others may not be good at, right? What your son has, others may not have, so there's no need to compare."
Teacher Xu did not expect that her words would open up Wang Ergou's thinking.
"That's right! Our business is better than the Luo family's, and we're richer too! Even if my son doesn't get into university, we can take care of him for the rest of his life!"
"Unlike the Luo family, they're dirt poor! They even had to borrow money to open their restaurant!" Wang Ergou was a rough and uncultured man, but he quickly regained his confidence.
In his opinion, apart from Luo Yao, the Luo family had nothing to offer!
The admissions officers exchanged glances, knowing that the conversation was over, so they stopped eating, got up and left Wang's Stir-Fry, leaving Wang Ergou alone cursing.
After they left the store, Teacher Xu pulled Teacher Ouyang aside.
"The Luo family should move out sooner rather than later. They should leave today if possible, otherwise who knows what might happen."
Teacher Ouyang smiled wryly and said, "You noticed it too?"
"Isn't that obvious? Jealousy can warp a person, especially since Luo Yao is the hope of the Luo family. How easy would it be to ruin this child!"
"Given Luo Yao's speaking style, he probably offends quite a few people in the past. Now that the news of his early admission to university will spread very quickly."
"Even the smallest things in a small town get blown out of proportion, let alone something this big. If someone doesn't understand, they might think, like the boss just now, that Luo Yao got into university through connections. How are Luo Yao's family supposed to deal with these rumors?"
"So no matter what, the faster the better."
After hearing Teacher Xu's analysis, Teacher Ouyang nodded in agreement and said, "That's what I was thinking too. If everyone isn't busy today, could you help out?"
"Please help Luo Yao's family move!"
The admissions officers walked up to him and laughed, "You owe us another meal!"
"Next time I want to eat at your most expensive restaurant!"
"You haven't eaten yet, do you want me to get you something to eat? Moving is hard work!"
Teacher Ouyang felt grateful to see that everyone was willing to help.
The group strolled to a food stall about 800 meters away, quickly ate some snacks, and then split up to explore.
Some of them went to rent cars, some went to buy plane tickets, and some went back to Luo Yao's house to do ideological work with them.
"What? You're leaving today? In such a hurry?" Sun Xiulan was still slowly packing her things in the room when she was surprised to hear Teacher Ouyang say that she was leaving with them today.
"The school arranged it this way mainly so that Luo Yao could register at the school as soon as possible," Teacher Ouyang told a white lie.
"Oh, okay then. I'll pack my things right away. Luckily, we don't have much stuff." Sun Xiulan quickly directed Luo Xingguo to tidy up the living room.
After Sun Xiulan left, Luo Yao, who had been listening to their conversation in silence, suddenly walked up to Teacher Ouyang and asked, "Is the reason you want us to move out immediately because of the Wang family?"
Teacher Ouyang was startled, thinking to herself that this child was really a monster, how come nothing could be hidden from him?
"You didn't mention this when you signed the agreement, but you suddenly made this decision after having dinner, so something must have happened when you went to dinner."
"But that's fine too. We weren't from the same circle to begin with, and we'd all leave sooner or later." After saying that, Luo Yao walked away, leaving Teacher Ouyang standing there in a daze.
So that's why this child didn't want to talk to the other person!
He knew he would eventually leave the town, so he felt the Wang family's existence was unimportant!
Teacher Ouyang heard that people with high IQs are often able to consider issues more comprehensively and analyze various possible outcomes and impacts in depth when weighing the pros and cons, thus making decisions that are more beneficial to themselves.
Teacher Ouyang now feels that he has indeed witnessed a living example.
Not emotional intelligence? That's actually the result of decisions made by highly intelligent people!
