Chapter 28 Seeking the Horse
Chapter 28 Seeking the Horse
After reading the message, Wei Hongsi returned the phone to Zhang Shengyong and said, "This photo studio shouldn't be the target. It's too small, and it's not even publicly listed."
Wei Hongbo agreed: "From this perspective, this photo studio is indeed not worth the schemes of the behind-the-scenes manipulators."
Zhang Shengyong asked in confusion, "Then why did Peng Jun go to the trouble of making it into a film that implicitly contains that kind of basis?"
"It's probably just for practice," Wei Hongsi guessed. "After Peng Jun joined Zi Hu, his first priority was to prove his abilities, otherwise there would be no follow-up. So his first job was basically random; he had to do whatever project came up, and he had no choice in which clients he wanted."
Zhang Shengyong said, "But according to your previous analysis, shouldn't Peng Jun's abilities have already been maxed out? Is there any need for him to practice?"
Wei Hongsi asked with a smile, "Brother Yong, if your crime-solving skills were maxed out, wouldn't you want to find a case to practice on?"
"That's true." Zhang Shengyong nodded sincerely.
Wei Hongsi said, "And it's not just Peng Jun who wants to practice. The mastermind behind him who instilled these abilities probably also wants to test the results, right?"
"Then how do you explain the two 'GG's' at the end?" Wei Hongbo asked.
"Perhaps they're casting a wide net and waiting for an opportunity, or maybe they want to further verify their findings," Wei Hongsi said thoughtfully. "Tomorrow I want to go and see the GG filming at the amusement park. They're going to recreate the filming process, and maybe we can find some clues."
"If you discover anything, let me know immediately," Wei Hongbo said, taking out his cigarette case and offering cigarettes.
"That's all the information I can provide. I'm going back to sleep now!" Wei Hongsi said hastily, got out of the car, and left without looking back.
He was well past his normal bedtime, and his temples were throbbing; he really didn't want to smell their secondhand smoke anymore.
……
……
Wei Hongsi woke up slowly around nine o'clock in the morning.
He sat up in bed and stretched, feeling like something was missing. After a few seconds of blank staring, he suddenly realized that the ghostly text that would appear before his eyes every time he woke up was not there this time!
With a slight thought, the "System" panel appeared before my eyes.
[Level: Level 1 (Useless)]
[Tip: Being able to support yourself is only the most basic requirement; strive to become a person who truly contributes to human society!]
Current contribution points: 120
[Talent: Age Recognition (Level II); Risk Warning (Level II)]
[Mission: Find the mastermind behind the GG Drink trap at the amusement park (Completing this mission will grant a system level boost)]
[Mission: Assist the police in finding the true cause of Li Yunxiang's death (Countdown: 20 hours 56 minutes)]
[Task: Find the clues hidden in Plan B (Countdown: 20 hours 56 minutes)]
It seems that after the "system" upgrade, the ghost text will no longer appear automatically after waking up.
Thinking back to the time when the ghostly text first appeared, he felt extremely uncomfortable, especially when he got up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and saw a line of pale green text floating in front of him, which scared him so much that he almost vomited on the bed.
It feels a bit strange now that the ghost text doesn't pop up on its own.
The contents on the panel were almost unchanged from what he had seen before going to bed. The two time-limited tasks were still counting down, and he didn't have much time left.
After talking with the two police officers in the early hours of the morning, Wei Hongsi thought he had figured out the hidden clues in Plan B. However, when he checked the "System" panel before going to bed, he found that the task was not completed at all.
He felt there were probably two possibilities.
Either the clues you provide need to be verified in practice, or there are still clues to be discovered in Plan B.
The former depends on the progress of the investigation by the older brother and his team, while the latter requires them to find out for themselves.
As for Li Yunxiang's true cause of death, he believes his speculation is very close to the truth. The reason the mission is not yet complete is that the official autopsy results have not yet been released.
Now, a whole night has passed, and both tasks are still pending.
It's understandable that the investigation on my brother's side hasn't made any progress yet. But why haven't the autopsy results from the forensic center come out yet? Didn't they stay up all night?
This lousy "system" doesn't give any clear prompts; you have to guess at everything, making for a terrible user experience. Even just displaying a completion rate or a progress bar would at least provide some step-by-step guidance. Otherwise, you won't even know you've gone in the wrong direction—what's the point of having it?
Wei Hongsi silently complained, closed the "System" panel, got out of bed and went to the bathroom to take a shower.
The accommodation is a studio apartment provided by the company, but the individual needs to pay part of the rent. He still follows his student days habit and likes to call it his dormitory.
The area near the entrance is a simple open-plan kitchen, equipped with an induction cooker, microwave, and range hood, where you can prepare simple meals.
After taking a shower, he heated up a cup of milk, fried two eggs, and baked three slices of bread, then took them to the corner table to eat.
This table serves as both his dining table and his worktable.
There was a bookshelf against the wall, with a metal whistle on it.
As he ate breakfast, he thought to himself that he hadn't been to work on time today and might have missed his chance to meet the energetic older man. He decided that if they met again, they should definitely have a proper chat.
After finishing my meal, I sent a message to Lu Jiaqi, saying that I wanted to go to **** for a photoshoot and asked if she could help arrange it.
After washing and tidying up the dishes, I returned to the table and saw that Lu Jiaqi had already replied to my message: "I'm on my way to the filming location, about to leave in fifteen minutes. Do you have enough time?"
Wei Hongsi guessed that Lu Jiaqi should be at the company at this time, so he sent a message saying, "No problem, I'll wait for you at the main entrance downstairs?"
Soon after, Lu Jiaqi replied: "OK!"
So I grabbed my belongings, went out, scanned a shared bike on the roadside, and started pedaling towards the company.
It usually takes him thirteen or fourteen minutes to walk to the company, but less than five minutes by bike.
After parking my bike and walking downstairs to the company building, I soon saw He Feng walking in with a cup of coffee. I greeted him, "Good morning, Manager He!"
"Still early? What time is it!" He Feng said with a look of disdain. It had been almost an hour since work started, and this kid had obviously just arrived.
After saying that, he ignored Wei Hongsi's reaction and turned to walk into the lobby. He swiped his card to enter the turnstile and found that Wei Hongsi had not followed.
Turning my head to look outside, I saw Wei Hongsi get into a white 3 Series BMW, and then the car drove out of the area in front of the building and merged into the traffic.
He Feng was stunned for a while. He recognized it as Lu Jiaqi's car, so he couldn't understand why the two of them would go out together.
Wasn't the commission from the amusement park already over? Did I miss something?
